Impact Gun
My impact gun is a wuss, cheap, and very old. It could not work my C-press for ball joint and universal joint removal. So, I am looking at Ingersoll Rand.
So far I found a 231C IR. A standard gun. http://www.tooltopia.com/ingersoll-rand-231c.aspx And long anvil version, good for a lot of tire removal. No need for the 2" socket extension with this one. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BMJTL8/ref=asc_df_B00... And the big boy. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too..._370269_370269 What do you think?

Re: Impact Gun
I love my Titanium http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...3267_200353267
This gun has no issues with balljoint presses or removing anything really. Also on the damage side of things I have also seen it a ton from careless hacks which is why they should hand you a mechanical test when you try to purchase one!!!! |

Re: Impact Gun
Impact guns dont damage anything. The idiot holding it does. They have there purpose. Putting things together is not one of them. If a bolt is going to break its going to break with a ratchet just the same as it will with an impact gun.

If I can find a better price, maybe. 780 lb-ft is a lot of torque!

Found the titanium IR for a lot less at IR of all places. So in a moment of weakness, I bought it. it should get here mid week.
Thanks for the help.

I still curse the guy who did the state safety inspection on my '69 Cutlass F-85. Needed a 4-foot pipe on a breaker bar to remove the lug nuts. Had to threaten a lawsuit to get them to replace the stripped wheel studs. Which I installed myself.

I bought this one about a year ago and after 25 years of using impact guns this is the best. Light weight magnesium gun with 1190 break away torque and no shock to your hands.

Re: Impact Gun
Don't hate, but I bought my Thundergun about 2 years ago when Northern had a typo on their website. They had it fo $40 instead of the $40 off it should have been. I called the local Northern store and asked them if they would honor it. They said "sure, corporate will pay us back for it." I had them hold one for me with my name on it, and when I got there they only had 1, the 1 with my name on it. I love it. I also have a cheapo 3/8" impact gun from Harbor freight that I use on long bolts because it spins 3x faster than the Thundergun. And the 3/8" one goes to 260 ftlbs.

Re: Impact Gun
If you don't use it everyday, Titanium IR is the best option. At work I use only Snapon air tools, but they can be over double the price of IR. My snapon red-top (forget which model number) 3/8" is strong enough to remove lug nuts , but also was in the $3xx range, where you can get a Titanium IR 1/2" well below that.

Re: Impact Gun
I use my Matco version of the IR Titanium everyday and it is a great gun! Seen alot of other guns go down while mine keeps trucking on. I have a cheapy Northern tool backup gun as well! Not a bad gun for 200 bucks or whatever. But wont hold a candle to my Matco/IR gun.
