dually wheel width

I would like to run a 7 inch wide steel dually wheel. Are there any factory steel wheels I could be looking for, or specific years of trucks that use a 7 inch wide dually wheel. I want to keep a 16 inch tall wheel since I have new tires. My problem is that my tires are crowning up in the center on a 6 inch wide wheel. I am running 255 85 16. Thanks for any help.

Re: dually wheel width

more specifically, are the late 90s into 2000s steel dually wheels 7 inches wide or another width? Maybe someone from the other board would know.

Re: dually wheel width

Tagging along, the only source I've found for 'em new at any width is Stockton Wheel in CA. Since these 8 on 6.5" wheels are pretty much universal, surely something else has steelies at 7" or 7.5" from the factory???

Early Chevy C30 wheels were 16x6 inch 6.5 inch bolt pattern

Now all standard Chevy dually wheels are 17 inch on 8x 6.5 bolt pattern and heavy duty duallys use 19.5 commercial tires and wheels

I don't know of any factory 7 inch wheel but there are aftermarket stuff that u can get in all sizes including semi truck wheels and adaptors for 22 and 24 inch stuff.....big bucks though!!!!! good luck

Re: dually wheel width

i would take a 6.5 inch wide wheel. Just a little wider to keep my tires from wearing out in the middle. I also think it would look cooler. Also, not sure what a 170mm bolt pattern is, but I think the bolt pattern for all chevy duallies is the same. Am I wrong.

Re: dually wheel width

170mm is an 8-lug pattern that started in about '99. Before that, pretty much everything was 8x6.5"

Re: dually wheel width

Early 8 lug patterns in mm are 8x165.1mm (also known as 8x6.5 inches) These were the universal bolt pattern for all 8 lug wheels Chevy Ford Dodge and Jeep.

Newer Ford wheels are 8x170 mm and 8x200 mm in late model trucks.

Newer Chevy and Dodge wheels do still have the 165.1mm or 8x6.5 inch but Chevy went to 17 inch, and they are 6.5 inch wide. Not sure about Dodge. Also note that the new lugs are also metric 14mm. whereas the old Chevy stuff was 1/2 inch till 1970 then went to 9/16 lugs well into the 80's.

But to answer your question, to my knowledge there is no 6.5 inch wide wheel (factory) until they went to 17 inch which will obviously not work with your tires.

A 255 tire is definatly to wide for a 6 inch rim. I run 235 85 16 on 16x6 mid 70's dually rims and they even bulge a little on the sides. Unless u go aftermarket i think your out of luck with that combo......................hope this helps.........Dan
