My trip to Goodguys FAIL.

Last year I took a day off work drove my '71 from Arkansas to the KS Speedway for Goodguys and basically drove 3 hours in the worst storms I've seen in years. I was hoping to have one of those spiritual cruises on the open road...just not like that! While cruising the track before leaving for home my TV cable got stuck (freak thing) and I spent the rest of the evening in a parking lot making repairs. Ended up trailering her home.

This year I was on the fence until this morning the beautiful weather prompted me to try again. The truck was running great and I made it about 1/2 way then BOOM, hit a small object in the road and had a massive blowout. Got her off the road and thankfully wasn't too far from the in-laws in Nevada, MO. My FIL helped me limp her home which took two spares (which I had to go scrounge), three hours and more effort than I cared to exert. So I will NOT be driving her to the show tomorrow and probably trailering her home again since my tire size is nowhere to be found.

Sat on the side of the road awhile, actually wasn't too bad. I wasn't pressured to be anywhere and I had a lawnchair.

Sorry for the

Unfortunately I had not yet stocked the cooler. That will be the first thing I do next year, then if all else fails...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles and I hope you get home without any more problems. 2 years in a row...what a bummer. Well...you can try going to the one next weekend at Riverside, MO
I'm planning on going tomorrow morning. If there was something in particular you were wanting to see, let me know and I'll take some pictures and post them.

Re: My trip to Goodguys FAIL.

Oh I'll be there just won't have anything cool to drive. Plenty of forum members with nice rides going though! I can't bring myself to trailer it, it's not that nice, looks weird being towed TO a show.

LEEVON, sorry to hear about your troubles. I know stuff like this can be a real aggravation. Keep your chin up though. That's a nice looking truck.

I'm only about 5 miles from it & I didn't make it this year. My wife got sick & i thought it was more important to take care of her as I love & need her.

Well, LEEVON, as much as it stinks to be stuck on the side of the road, there could be worse things. (Except the non-stocked cooler would rank right up there!) But, you can always replace metal, parts, etc., and at least you didn't have an accident and do major damage to yourself or the truck.

Wrenchbender Ret has it right. I gotta' say, my wife can be a real pain in the...well, you know...but she takes good care of me and she sure comes before anything else. Super Chevy show in Denver was August 20th to the 22nd, missed it the last several years and several of us were planning on going. On August 10th the wife was in a fairly severe car accident! I spent the weekend tending to her instead of going to Denver.

Well I made it, had a good time and talked with some board members. It's probably a good thing the truck stayed home though, there were sooo many nice trucks she would have felt homely!

Lee I hate to hear of your problems but ya know these trucks broke down from time to time back in 72 too. Just part of it in spite of the best preparations.

Re: My trip to Goodguys FAIL.

Seems like a bad weekend for tires. My daughter had a flat on her HHR Thursday night on the way to Seattle and her friends blew a new tire on their truck and ruined tire and rim before stopping.

Two weeks ago we spent the night in a rest area on I 5 after we lost a wheel bearing on the boat trailer. At least we were on the way home from our sailing vacation instead of going.

And one thing to remember, just as many vehicles get damaged getting loaded on or in trailers and riding on trailers as they do going down the road under their own power and you miss the enjoyment of driving the truck somewhere and that is what it ( or should be) all about anyhow. Never could figure why a guy needs a 50,000 new diesel truck and a 15,000 trailer to haul his all too valuable 30,000 rig around when he could be having fun driving it.
