radiator support

Hello,

So i just placed my cab back on the frame with new body mounts and ensured i had the cab level. I put my new aftermarket fenders on with a new aftermarket radiator support with new mounts and the fenders sagged at the bottom and kinda overlaped the rocker panel. I shimmed the radiator support with the lower rubber mount so now i have both mounts on top of eachother and the gaps are good. Is this too much to shim the radiator support? Should i shim the cab more?

If Im reading this correct you have both cusions for the core support stacked on top of each other? There is something very wrong here can ya shoot us some pics to help with the visual almost sounds like the rear cab mounts are on the front of the cab?

Are the cab mounts differant sizes for a 72 ? i bought a Polyethylene mount kit 4 mounts were the same and then two mounts were smaller. The smaller ones are for the radiator support correct.

Yes correct my front mounts for the core support measure 3/4''

how would i have the rear cab mounts on the back if they are the same at all 4 corners

Earlier cab mounts were not the same size for front/back

Are 72 2wd cab mounts dif sizes for front and back because if they are LMC gave me a bad kit or something

It is also possible they sent the wrong Core Support Mounts also.

woh wait a second you bought ''polyrthyene'' mounts arent those like a plastic/rubber those are going to squeak like crazy if theres one thing my dad tought me it is metal and rubber nothing more so hope that helps now the rubber has 3 cushions so it seems and that is for the back the front only has one in between the cab/frame hope that helps

well i just looked at the pics and there should be huge shims/ washers in between the poloy..

When I put my truck together I worked from back to front. First I got the doors lined up so gap at back of door was parallel. Then I hung the front fenders and had the same problem as you do. To fix it I totally loosened the rad supports and worried only about the gaps between the door front and the fender. Once I got both fenders parallel to the doors, then I bolted fender fronts to the rad support and grille assembly. I did have to shim the rad support up some but in the end it all fit. Of course this was just the pre-paint alignment. For painting, I completely disassembled and I will have to do this again. I did write down how many shims I used and where.

Do you have the bed installed? Looks like you could shim up the rear of the cab a little bit?

the bed is not installed and i have tried shimming the back of the cab some but i think i might have to get another body mount kit or just keep playing with what i got.

More information about your truck would be a good start.
You don't mention whether your truck is 1/2 or 3/4 ton, or what year. The cab mounts are different and the radiator supports are different, depending on what you have.

Could you snap a pic of the rear body mounts?

The core support rubber pads for a '67-68 are approx. 1/4" thick and the ones for the other years are approx. 3/4" thick.

Could the frame possibly be converted from 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton? The rear body mount brackets on the 3/4 ton sit lower on the frame and take a taller rubber pad....

ok here is a pic of the rear driver side mount but it is not tightened down.The gap is there because when all the body mounts are loose the cab rocks forward due to it being front heavy.

That is a 1/2 ton bracket for sure. You have something else going on, there is no way the cab should rock back and forth. When you lower the cab onto the mounts it should sit flat on all four of them with no gap, even without the bolts. Did you replace the floor? Is it a high hump or low hump floor?

I did replace the entire floor and its a low hump floor. i braced the crap out of the cab before replacing the floor too. Man this is not looking too good

IIRC my poly mounts had a short pair for the rad support but the 4 discs/tubes for the cab front and rear mounts looked the same, but wound up there were 2 pair......with like 10mm or less difference.

Could the floor be hitting on the transmission? When the cab is sitting on the frame with no bolts in it which mounts are all the way down on the pads? Man, I hope your cab isn't jacked out of shape that much....

well there is no motor or transmission in so its not hitting that. The passenger side front and driver side rear are the ones not touching. i think that the rear of the floor might be off ill have to take some measurements of another truck.

From what he says, the cab probably rocks because he has the front clip on (this is the front weight) and the rad support is not touching unless he loosens the back body mounts. I have the same situation on my 68 2WD after I put in new body mounts. I shimmed the rad support but have not yet tried putting on the front bumper. I suspect that I may have to reshim to get bumper to align. (mine did not rock from corner to corner, however.)
