Inner rocker panel question

I finally tore into the passenger side rocker. Doesn't look to bad, A pillar was solid-ish, but rusty, so I am replacing that.



And obviously the lower kick, inner and outer rockers.



I am using the truck inner, and I have a question regarding the indents on the bottom where it meets the rocker box:



Are the two areas supposed to fit on top of the rocker box? It seems that they are way too low. If I force (and I mean FORCE) the rocker box down to allow the inner to sit flush, it puts a bow in the box. The original inner was rusted out, so I have nothing to measure from or to.

I tested the outer rocker without the inner, and it snaps nice and clean onto the rocker box and lines up nicely.

Should I cut the tabs or slots up to match the rocker box floor? Will I then need to cut the bottom off of the inner rocker?

i am by no means a body man , for what its worth i had to cut mine off to fit!

You did a fine job! Did you cut the tabs or the whole lower section to fit?

i had to cut about a half inch off the bottom! the indents are still there, this is to allow drainage i believe!

I also trimmed the tabs to fit. The trucks don't have torsion boxes to deal with. That's all it should take. Remember, we are dealing with parts meant for trucks and they are after market, so a small amount of tweaking is necessary sometimes.

I think if i am understanding you correctly the bottom outer edge of the inner rocker is to flush up against the rockerbox not sit down inside or on top the rockerbox. Look at your first pic the metal that was left covering the floor support is the old inner rocker the tabs on the rocker box that you have ground clean you ground away the old skin that was spotted to the rocker box. I am in the process of doing it now i rip out my inner easily very badly rusted all the tabs on the rocker box still have metal and a spot weld

Thanks for all the replies, I think I have it figured out. I went back and looked at some other rocker installs, and it looks like I need to cut the bottom of the inner to match the rocker box tabbed (or slotted) section.

I will hopefully have it back together this weekend and start on the drivers side.
