Column ID and missing parts

I bought an auto column for my 68. I was told the column came out of another 68 truck. It seems to be missing a few parts at the bottom which doesn't look like the one in my truck now which is a 4speed column. Mine is all one piece to the rag joint. This one seems to have a joint at the end then another shaft to the gear box? I'm guessing the parts I am missing are my lower bearing and whatever holds it in since the shaft slides all the way out. How do I know which year column I have and and the reason I ask is I have seen the lower bearing parts in a kit but the book said for a 69-72 which leaves me out. Anyone here have theirs apart before that can help with what it will take to put it back together?

Is this what you're talking about? There is another part that fits onto the stub and attaches to the rag joint at the steering box.

The pic I posted is from a '71-2 GMC Tilt. But, it attaches just like the non-tilt column I pulled out of my '69. I don't know what year column you have, but I don't think it is a '67-72.

The column in your picture is a 69-72, you're missing the lower bearing, the spring and the big washer. There is also an intermediate shaft between the column and the gear box. 67 and 68 columns are all one piece.

I was wondering what holds the washer in? And can I use the lower shaft off a 3peed manual column? I have a 72 parts truck

If I recall correctly, the spring between the intermediate shaft and the washer holds the bearing in. I've always used tilt columns which don't need the spring and washer.

Yes, the lower shaft off the 3 speed column will work.

Here is a pic of the washer and spring. The column is a four speed non-tilt but the auto column has the same setup.

Thanks JimKshortstep4x4, that pic says it all. I don't have the washer but I think my 3spd column in the 72 parts truck has one I can rob. Thanks everyone for the info.

Yes it is a 50th Anniversary. The truck was originally a C20 307/4spd. I am converting it over to all 1/2 ton and 350/auto.The kid I bought it from for 400 bucks had no Idea what an Anniversary truck was.
