1949 GMC 228 Valve Lifters
Who is having problems finding\getting valve lifters for thier truck engine?
I have been waiting months for mine to come in from (arizona) with the understanding that there are none to be found. What is up with that? Anybody else out there in my boat?

Re: 1949 GMC 228 Valve Lifters
Yes the early ones are chicken lips. If you have a later cam, they are made of a different material, and use a different lifter. That being said I haven't tried to buy any later ones either in a while they could be problematic also. The early look like milk cans and the laters look like regular ol lifters. Jay

Re: 1949 GMC 228 Valve Lifters
Thanks for the input guys.
I guess I dont get it. The lifters I got out of my 228 are the shorter type with the longer rods that fit into the lifter. (non milk can looking) I had my cam reground for a little more performance. Now I am assuming that I can't use my old lifter on the new cam.?? Even though I think they appear to be in good shape.??? Dissimilar metals? I, honestly don't think it matters? But then again, I don't want to ruin my cam either! Input anybody...
