I have dual electric fans off an LS1-F-body. Driving down the highway my temps are ~170 deg.
You can adjust what temps the fans come on via the ECM if you have it set up that way. On my corvette it was very effective at maintaining the temps <200 while at the drag strip. |

Re: 63-72 LSx Cooling fan setup what ya got?
The reason I ask is because when I stop or am real slow with traffic, the temp goes to about 210+. that is without the AC on. when I am moving temp stays at or about 185-195. So I wanted to know what everyone else is doing, also I dont have my shroud on either, just the two 12" fans, one on all the time, the other with AC on.

Re: 63-72 LSx Cooling fan setup what ya got?
Clyde,
I am running a 6.0 L LS2 (390 HP), 190 thermostat. I am running twin electric fans. The engine runs 190-193. The radiator cools so well that the fans never come on unless I just sit and idle for 5 min. or so (that is in high 90's South Carolina weather). Then one fan comes on for a minute, drops the temp 10 deg and stops. The fans are shrouded with pass throughs if they are not running. No air conditioning but the install is beginning. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=420322

I got a 16" Hayden electric fan that is controled by the PCM. It seems to cut in and out at an idle. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet...

Re: 63-72 LSx Cooling fan setup what ya got?
I am using LS1 Alum intake and dual fans from F-body. I have one fan programmed to come on at 210 and go off at 200 (I think been a while since i looked) and the other one is to come on at 215 I think, it never comes on. I do not have an 'shrouding', I have it just like it is from the F-body.
Driving is 194* (stock thermo) and when I get in slow/stopped traffic it creeps up to 210 and then that fan brings it back down. I was shocked it actually worked that well. If you run a mechanical fan I think a shroud is needed, on all of the other swaps we have been involved in the shroud is a must, if we move to an electric fan and it will move enough air it will keep it cool. Sometimes with the Rockcrawling Jeeps we stick to the mechanical fan b/c of the slow speeds and beating the motors take, seems to work better and gives us more room to put a HUGE trans cooler up front which will have its own fan. NOTE: stock these motors are set to run in the 200-210 range all the time so that is normal.

TR65, you and I have the same radiator and the same fans I guess.
Shon, I dont have a PCM that has the fans in it, at least I dont think I do, it is from a 2002 truck. My #1 fan is set to turn on around 190 but most usually it stays on, the other fan turns on with the AC.

What tells your fans currently to run if they are not controlled by the PCM?

Hey Shon, what pins in the pcm do you connect relays to to control the high and low fans? I'm also using the pcm to control the a/c.
