ok, power sterring belt routing question (not the same ol question)
I know that most people run the powersteering belt from the crank to the ps pulley..... but my question is, is there any harm in routing around the water pump as well? This is on a early 305 with a mid 70s PS pump.
Anyone have any knowledge on this? |

It's funny you post this. I actually ran into this today. I wanted to run the PS off the crank with a short belt but my P/S pully lines up with the second grove on the crank pulley so I figured I'd just go around the water pump. I looks fine with lots of belt on all pulleys. the other option was to get a 2 groove P/S pulley but I'm too lazy.

I don't see any harm in doing this, but you'll just have to measure for the belt, and ask for a belt that length at your local auto parts suply

I was just looking at this a few weeks ago, my 250 has the belts going on both crank & wp, but all the v8's were the other way. I would think it can't hurt, might even be a good idea, since you have 2 belts spinning the wp. Incase one belt breaks you will still have water circulating.
