Question How to change door panel color???

Okay, I'm lookin' for some pointers on the best way to change my door panel/arm rest and sun visor colors to black. I believe the door panels a a type of plastic and the arm rests and sun visors are vinyl or leather. Thanks!

Re: How to change door panel color???

Spray them with interior dye available at most auto stores. Over a period of time (2-3 years), some wear shows in high contact areas. No problem, just touch them up by re-spraying.

Re: How to change door panel color???

I recommend before dyeing them, become a subscribing member and post a WTT ad for some black door panels and arm rests. The 72' parchment color doors are prone for becoming chalky and are getting harder to find in great shape. You should be able to find someone with nice black door panels to trade with and both parties would be very happy. You can get good results with dyeing with products like SEM or PPG, but from what I can tell, your truck looks pretty original, and you might as well get the black door panels you crave, and help out someone wanting parchment (off white). Re: How to change door panel color???

I used SEM on a console I restored, and I also used it on a set of arm rests. The console was originally blue, and the arm rests were black .... I turned them tan-ish .... they came out great. One key is to prep the surface per directions. But the comment about saving those nice panels for someone else has merit.

Mine are starting to look that way a bit. That is why I was wanting to go black as a cover-up for now. Thanks for your response! Mark
