Starting old engine- Carb problem
So I got my engine that has been sitting for 12 years to crank over. I am having a problem with the carb, its spitting out gas. It seems like its letting the fuel come right through and not "regulating it." The carburator was in a bucket in the truck when I got it, it was pretty gunked up so I let it sit in the parts cleaner for a few hours if that helps any. The idle mix screws were un even as well. Any ideas? Thanks

I'd say the float is stuck or the needle valve is stuck open. The carb probably needs rebuilt or replaced... LockDoc

Re: Starting old engine- Carb problem
+1 assume that its a Q Jet. Usually the needle gets gunked up and frozen in place. If its been 12 years the accel pump probably won't be too healthy either.
