I found a site that sells 4" drop front coils. Are these a good idea or should they be avoided like the plague? They are ALOT cheaper than dropped control arms.

you should avoid them like the plague. 2" is about max you want to go on a spring up front, & still keep geometry as it should be.........crazyL

Longhorn is right. Have you thought about dropped spindels. I have not looked into dropped arms and do not know the price difference. Bill Turner has a do it yourself kit for dropping you crossmember 1.25" for only $100 with a set of 2" dropped coils for $110 your looking at $210, slightly cheaper than dropped spindles. I have a link on my website for his magazine ad.
It is in pdf format and is about 1.5 MB in size kinda big but they also have a website you can go to.

I got a set of imbach front 3" drop springs for 100.00/plus shipping.

I have given a little thought to notching my crossmember , for just a little more drop. Turners are 1 1/4 like adamls stated, but you can go a little more........I have been told about 1 3/4" max by one of the drop shops......now im looking for a truck to part, so I can set it up & swap it over a weekend

for a 2" drop, you could probably get by with a stock shock. I have made brackets for mine, but you can pick up a set of brackets from Turner enterprises for about $45....crazyL

the brackets change the top mounting point , so you can run the stock lenght shock......crazyL

it would be best if you could get new shocks. if you used spindles you wouldnt need them since the geometry wouldnt be changed, but with 2" coils, it moves it 2" so a shorter drop shock would really help out

my friend has a 72' that he's wanting to drop soon, but i'm helping him out on how to do it. he wants a 3/4 drop.

he was originally gonna get 3" front spings, and 4" of drop blocks in the back:p

he still doesnt want to spend the cash on spindles, so he's still gonna get the 3" springs but i told him to get 2" springs and 2" blocks in the back

I wish I could use spindles, but I don't have disc brakes. This limits me to coils and control arms I guess.

You should really do the disc conversion...it's just a good idea, period...

i want to really bad, but my drums in the back will have to work for now

i'm waiting till i get my rims before i redo my brakes. that way i will be able to get bigger brake rotors that wouldnt be able to fit in 15's

I want to do one in the back just because I HATE WORKING ON DRUMS...aaagh...

And I get to do new backing plates soon to boot. Gah. Ah well, I should change the rear gear oil soon anyway...
