gas gauge wierd hook up

Ok so I have the tan wire going from the fuel tank sending unit directly spliced into the tan wire on the harness behind the dash and the gauge works fine. However i disconeccted it from the harness behind the dash and connected it to the fuse box where it says fuel gauge and the dam gauge doesnt work it goes to full and stays there. Now another question wat is the cluster feed for because I have it on my fuse box but noting is connected to it.

Ok but it doesnt help much??why is it that it works when I splice it directly to the tan wire on the wiring harness under dash and not when I connect it to the fuse box..what can be wrong. and how is the dash connected to the fuse box ??

The dash is connected to the fuse box via the connector that plugs into the flexible circuit board. The sender provides ground to the fuel gauge. I can't draw a picture here but how about this for a verbal description of the circuit flow:

Switched 12v-> Fuel Gauge plus side-> Fuel Gauge meter->Fuel Gauge minus side->Tank Sender connection-> float variable resistor-> tank ground.

The brown wire is the arrow between the Fuel Gauge minus side and the Tank Sender

Ok thanx....what can be done to fix this problem becuz I dont want to have the tan wire from the sending unit spliced to the tan wire on harness under dash rather have it on the fuse box. SO how can i fix it.

so can anyone plz help me with this.. what can i do to fix the gas gauge to make it read from the fuse panel instead of splicing the wire from the fuel tank sending unit to tan wire on wire harness under the dash

If I am undeerstanding you correctly, you have a break in the wiring between the cluster and the fuse panel. If you want to be able to use the connection on the fuse panel again, you will need to find and repair that break or run a new wire. Probably not the answer you want to hear, but I don't know of any magic way to do this.

ok If i were to run a new wire ..how wud I run it. is there a wire behind the fusebox that goes to the cluster...what Iam i looking for??
what color wire from fuse box to cluster??etc...

Guys i really need help with this..its driving me nuts. Can I just leave the wire spliced in to the harness or is it better for me to take the wire off the harness under dash and connect to fuse box.

As long as the wire is out of your way, you can leave it as is. In order to replace it all, you'd have to pull the fuse box and run a new wire from there to the plug on the back side of the dash board. It runs from the terminal on the fuse box through the dash harness to the dash clip that plugs in to the printed circuit on the back of the dash. Thats a lot of pain. If its not in your way spliced, I'd leave it alone.

So its ok if I leave it spliced in to the tan wire on harness under the dash..will this cause inaccuracy. if it is connect thru the fuse panel will it be more accurate?

No, it will be fine there. You are only talking a couple hundreths of an ohm's difference in the length of wire. It is probably MORE accurate not using the terminal on the fuse box.

another question if my tan wire from the fuel tank sending unit to the dash has a wire nut in between it where the tan wire was cut then joined back together with a wire nut. will it cause any kind of in accuracy in the fuel gauge. Once again my tan wire from the fuel tank sending unit is cut and joined together with a wire nut then the other side goes to gauge.

If it were me, I would solder the wires together. Its more secure and less resistance. The wire nuts have some inherent resistance that is more than just the wire would be.
