Engine / Trans. swap

Ok, I have a 1980 C-10, 350, 4 speed and I am getting really tired of shifting and the engine is using some oil.

I have another truck, a 1981 C-30, 350, Turbo 400, motor has been rebuilt and the trans. works great. I want to swap the better stuff into the 80 and I am just going thru my head any issues I may have. I think everything should be straight forward and all the parts should be there. The only thing I think may be an issue is the drive line. Both trucks are long boxes, the C-30 has a single wheel rear-end. Any thoughts on this?

I know I will also have to swap the steering column, but would think that should be the same also.

Re: Engine / Trans. swap

Here's what I think. Steering column does not need to be swapped if you use a floor shift. If you have one already swap it. Drive shaft out of the one ton is probably 2 piece w/carrier thinking that wont work but your existing 1 piece in the 1/2 ton very well could, cross member will need changed to automatic. I went from a 3/4 4spd to an auto. I used parts off a 1/2 ton auto donor. Hope this helps

Re: Engine / Trans. swap

xrcr, thanks for your input. One thing that popped into my head last night on the way home was the pedals, I hadn't thought about that. I could leave the 4 speed pedals in there and tie back the clutch pedal, but my thought was to put the engine and all the 4 speed stuff back into the one ton and sell it as a running, driving truck. The more I think about this, it may be way more work than what it is worth.
