Got My Cab Back
I did bunch of body work on this '72 then dropped it off at Metal Finishers in Jackson, MS. Got it back this morning and have to show it off.

Actually a hot caustic dip. (Lye - NaOH). It removes ALL rust, factory seam sealer, Bondo, EVERYTHING but good metal. I still have some metalwork to do on it and I hope I can get it done before it begins to rust.

Man!
I am jealous! Have to get my cab to the blasters soon. Yours looks very good. But my question to you is did someone put any kind of treatment to prevent the metal from rusting? I was told once the metal is unprotected it has to have a coat of some kind of primer or other sprayable compound that protect metal from the air and potentail rusting in the future.

C20-67 N MO,
It is just bare metal so it will begin to "orange up" pretty soon. I will coat it good with the rust converter solution from Eastwood and finish the metal work then I may go back for another dip, then EDP. I have removed the drip rails already and I want to slick up the firewall a little more and do a little modification on the rear of the floor insude. Think I'm going to install a set of 2003 Caddilac buckets. Also toying with the idea of going flush with the windshield and back glass. |

Nice, theres a company over here thats started doing that, they dip it in a number of different stages to remove bondo, seam sealer etc, then into inhibited Hydrochloric acid to remove rust, then you fix it, then they dip it again and now they've just started using a system that basically lays down a nickel layer and then it gets EDP coated and baked. Not cheap though!

Yes, these guys follow with EDP too. There is one thing in common between here and there, - "Not cheap though"
I may do the EDP when I complete the body work. |

I am jealous, too. Going this weekend to pick up another cab (a '70) to replace my '69. The firewall of my '69 has essentially made it a basket case, with the steel worms having made swiss cheese out of it. It can still be clipped (windshield posts and a cut across the floor) and be a good cab, but it has been a show-stopper for too long. Many thanks to HavinSomeFun for all he has done to help make this a possibility. His trading and mine has turned my project (and his) into a pair of realities.
