fuel gauge resistor

hello I was wondering if any one can post apic if the fuel gauge resistor brcyzu think mine went bad and I need to replace it... another question how can u test if it is bad thanx

i am wondering also. my fuel gage reads well beyond the full mark (straight to the right). i moved the needle back when the cluster was apart for tach and vac install and it went right back to 3 o'clock that first time i hit the key.

The resistor is a part of the sending unit. A new sending unit must be purchased because the resistor itself in non-replaceable.

same problem. just replaced sending unit and some fuses works perfect for more than a year now. if i remember i bought a resister from a board member (thought it was the problem). however it work fine so didnt replace it

Try doing a continuity check on the wire first. It might have a break in it somewhere. It pegs when it becomes disconnected at the fusebox also. At least mine did. Good luck.

what do u mean it might have a break in it sumwhere...

The wire might be broken inside the insulation. Connect a multimeter to each end and do a continuity check on it. This will tell if the wire is good still, and the connectors are good, still attached to the wire.

My wire had many breaks and exposures in it. I clipped both ends of and spliced another piece of wire between the two terminal ends, almost the full length. Gauge still didn't work. I then took my sending unit out and realized my float was full of fuel.

well mine has the wire connected with wire nuts ...my tan wire goes from the sending unit to the gauge but in the middle the wire is joined together with a wire nut may this be a problem.
