I thought I might bid on this truck but not now. It is already over my price.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

Current High Bid: 1,070.00

However, the 1ton axles are worth more than that.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

Expect to pay between 1000 - 2500 for a truck in this condition on GL. These thing are going nuts. You can also expect to wait 3 weeks to 3 months waiting on release paperwork (EUC)

You would be better off going to gsaauctions.gov for cheaper pricing and less red tape getting the release paper work for a title (SF97). $700 - 1700 depending on location and shape.

The Blazers like my Avatar are M1009s and considered 3/4ton, the Pickups M1008, 1028, 1010, 1031 are 5/4 ton.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

stupid question is it as hard to get the paperwork on the trailers and how hard is it to change the thing to a 2 inch ball as opposed to a pintle hook?

EUC paperwork is averaging around 90 days now. You can't convert the pintle but you can unbolt it and install a class III hitch.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

If it was closer I would inspect the truck but it is 2 hours away and as you also have to pay 10% over auction price it is too high already. There are too many truck in this area that are better deals. I only paid $900 for a silverado with new tires, new differential, new trans. Granted the engine was shot but this maybe too, who knows.

They are not a bad deal if you can get them cheap.

So what is a good deal on these trucks if they look in decent shape?

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

I bought one about a year ago (not as clean as that one) for around $900. It was a little over a thousand after the paperwork etc. I bought it for the axles, but it ran and drove so I couldn't make myself part it out.

It looks like they have two batteries so are they 24 volts? What is different from a standard 1 ton?

The starting system is 24 volt as well as some communications wiring in the Blazers (M1009) and some pickups if it has a rack in the back or other configuration.

The rest of the vehicle is 12 volt.

They are really pretty much a Chevrolet Custom Deluxe K30 truck with a few specific options the military chose.

4.56 gears with a Detroit Locker in the 14 bolt rear, the Blazers have 3.08s with rear GovLocs. If you can find one with a NP205 Transfercase and the VIN begins 1GBHD vice GD then it will also hace a Trac Loc in the front Dana 60. Mostly found in the Contact Maintenance M1031s and a few Chassis Cabs that may have beds or other configurations.

To give you a clue on the paper work GL vs GSA, I won the Auction on my Crew Cab from GSA on 4 Oct at 5:30pm, I paid for it with a creditcard within the hour of winnng and I received the US Govt Certificate to Obtain a Title today in the mail on 7 Oct.

Depending where you are there a lot on there right now of Blazers and Pickups, some with red or yellow repaints from Rural Fire Dept use.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

I won an auction on govliquidators.com a week ago for an 84 M1009. The price was very good, I'm just waiting for the paperwork to clear so I can pick it up.

If you love the squares, these are a steal.

Bruiser - Have you bought from GL before? Once you are in the system with a EUC it is suppost to be faster on future purchases.

This is my first buy. Right now the wait is supposedly averaging 90 business days. We'll see how it goes.

Starter is 24 volt, glow plug system is also different, 2 alternators, everything else is 12V. M1008s are 8800 gvw with NP208s, M1028s have trak lok front axles and helper springs (9400 gvw), M1031s/M1028a1s have trak lok front axles and NP205 transfer cases (9200 gvw). I have had 12 of these trucks so far, prices range from condition, location of auction, how many there are, etc. GSA auctions are easiest paper work wise but condition varies wildly. Best to preview before you bid. Great trucks once you figure out the little nuances.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

This is mine for just a very few bucks over 1K. The paperwork will supposedly take a good 90 business days to process before I can bring it home. Still, I'm stoked...

When it gets home, the short list calls for a 2" or 3" lift, some BFG 33x12.50's, and a safari style soft top.

Re: 1985 3/4 ton army truck

Bruiser - that looks promising with the engine bay still intact. Hopefully charging the batteries and inspecting the glow plug system if it won't start. There is a good thread on the steelsoldiers site on replacing the glow plug relay to prevent frying the wiring.

Thank you sir, that's what I was thinking. Even if it's a dead soldier I'm confident I'll still be money ahead if I have to part it out.
