Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I'm looking for a soft top for a 72 C10 long bed...I found theses guys online: http://www.softopper.com , but a resale rep said my year truck is 'out of spec'...

Any ideas? I measured the bed at 98" x 66" ??? Sound about right?

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I got mine from LMC ..... It is actually an Extang Fulltilt model. Seems it was around $400. It comes off in less than a minute so you can leave it at home, or roll it up if you end up hauling something you didn't plan to. I believe they make one that just unsnaps and rolls up insted of the ability to tilt it or completely remove it. I am pretty sure it is a little cheaper.

Truxedo & Access brand covers is what I have used on all my trucks. Some of the covers are 10 years old and still work great. Unfortunately Access no longer offers there cover for 67-72 Chevy trucks. Truxedo still offers them for our trucks and can be found for around $400-$450.

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I need a softopper on a 72 GMC longbed - 96" for camping. Did anyone ever see if that Ford reference works?

They also sell a 96" top for a 73. Maybe the Ford works better?

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I don't kno why a 73-87 Softopper wouldn't work. I have swapped caps ans ladder racks between 67-72s for years. The racks I make sit on 2" angle that fits the top off the bedsides and front panel. They interchange with no issues and they are anything but soft. No flex at all

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

Thanks. I think the 73 and up will be fine. The thread with the video has a C10 with a 73+ softopper and it looks like a decent fit, I was just curious about that reference to a Ford top as it may be a better fit. Not sure what's up with softopper, but they aren't answering the phone or responding to email and I need a top ordered over the next week for a trip.

My wife has one of these on her 99 4x4 Tacoma and it beats a tent any day unless you're camped for a long spell. We got hailed out last May in Big Bend and gave up on our tent as it was flooded. Camped out of the truck instead and the topper was great in rainstorms and kept everything dry. Highly recommended if you camp out of your truck -- I just wanna get the best fit.

Thanks again.

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I slept through a storm they call a derecho in my Jimmy w/Softopper. It's a wind that builds (imagine the two wheels of a pitching machine) and travels in a straight line, unlike a tornado or hurricane. It started 700 miles away and passed through at a stiff and steady 85 mph. I was camped out at a flea market that is on an old drive-in theater lot...no basements or low spot to lay. It was rockin' & rollin' me making me wonder if staying in there was the best thing to do. It was dark, so never saw it coming. I figured I was best off in the heavy vehicle and if it was a tornado I would find out when I went air born. I was thinking I was glad I was in a tent held down by an '85 diesel Jimmy. With that driving rain I never got a drop inside

Special-K - That softopper looks great on your truck. I was just thinking about these tops today and wondering what they were called and if they made them for my 69 C10.

Re: Soft Top for a 72 C10 Long Bed ?

I always liked this truck. Not sure if this was custom made or what. I've had this picture for 7-8 years. Back in the late-70s there were tops made that snapped to the cab and were convertible. I wanted one for my Sweptline '69 Power Wagon, but ended up building it with a Utiline bed instead
