What size braided fuel line? -6 or -8 for sb400

Hey guys I just got my aluminum fuel cell in and I'm ready to buy some braided fuel lines. However I dont know which fuel lines I should go with. I already have the -6 dual feed from edelbrock. Check it out:

My sb400 should be making around 580ft lbs of torque. I've heard some say the -6 line is too small. So should I run the -8 line to my edelbrock fuel pump or the -6 to match my existing dual feed fuel line?

Also my fuel cell is all the way back to the rear crossmember so should I need 15' or 20' in your opinion? Thanks guys!

There is no point in having huge lines with that pump. It says right in the discription that it has 3/8" NPT fittings, so adding 1/2" lines after it accomplishes nothing.


The dash fittings are measured in 16ths of an inch, so 6/16 equates to 3/8.

-6 = 3/8"
-8 = 1/2"

o.k. for a mechanical fuel pump... use -8 with an inline filter and a check valve to the pump. If you are using a regulator, -6 from the pump to the regulator, then -6 from regulator to your 2nd filter/dual feed, if no regulator, -6 from the pump to the 2nd filter/dual feed.

the 1st filter... the alum fuel cell is bottom outlet fed. which means all the crap that gets into the tank will make its way into your fuel line, so put a cleanable filter close to the tank (you don't want that crap going thru your pump).

the check valve... more than likely, your fuel cell outlet is now lower than your fuel pump. Put a check valve in line between the 1st filter and your pump. You don't want your pump dry pumping. your girlfriend doesnt like it, neither will your fuel pump.

AN-8 line... you want as much gas as you can get going to the pump with the least amount of resistance. need a visual aid? try drinking something with a swizzle stick, then drink thru one of those big honkin straws from Mickey D's. The bigger the line, the less chance for fuel starvation.

Thanks for the help man. I'll go with the -8. Looks like I need to buy me a check valve and another filter. What micron filter do you think I should get coming from the fuel cell?

Also do you have any idea how much braided hose I should need I forgot to measure when I was under the truck.
