Cheap Fender?
Has anyone used any of the reproduction fenders before? I need to get one because PO bent the heck out of the front of mine....and I found one on ebay for $70 and that seems pretty cheap because I have seen them going for atleast $150 from Classic Parts and LMC....

Re: Cheap Fender?
I haven't but I've been thinking about it. Have some rust on the lower part of the fenders. It's either that or just a lower patch panel and some welding which I'm not very good at. I'd say I'll let you know, but it'll probably be spring before I get around to it. Interested to hear what others have to say.

Re: Cheap Fender?
My 77 has a repro front fender on it. Junk in my opinion. I was drilling a hole to mount a solenoid and bumped the outside skin with the bit (on the inside) and it made an instant depression and cracked the paint. Very think. You get what you pay for. Try a local junkyard first, if you can. It's going to need paint either way.

Re: Cheap Fender?
Whats wrong with your fender? if its only rusted at the bottom rear, it would be better to patch it.

Re: Cheap Fender?
Bottom front AND rear. Also the drivers side rear cab corner needs replaced. Other than that everything's alright. Like I said, I was thinking of trying to weld in a patch but I don't know how much I really trust myself to do it right. Then again, I wasn't so sure about pulling and re-installing the engine but I did that okay, so maybe I should try it. It's only $20 for the patch, and it couldn't really be worse off than it is if I screw it up a little.

Just scour the junkyards and if you don't find something you like, PM captkaos, he can hook you up, he's a vendor. There are super cheap fenders out there, but you can tell they are what they are. They'll hold the trim and hood up but they take a heck of a lot of work to make pretty, if you can. I have a goodmark fender on mine and it's acceptable. I had to slot out the holes in the core support to get it to line up right, but now it's said and done I'm happy with it. |

Re: Cheap Fender?
Don't waste your money on the cheap repop fenders. For a few buck more you can get a Goodmark from Capt Kaos who is a site vendor. I bought one and the metal is as thick if not thicker than OEM.

Re: Cheap Fender?
I paid $50 for 1 at salvage yard. I would go that route unless you can't find a decent one. It took me several trips to several yards before I found mine. I was actually looking for a set of rallys at this yard and decided to walk around. They originally told me they didn't have any doors/fenders but low and behold there sat a perfect specimen, an 86 k5 blazer with perfect doors and fenders!

Re: Cheap Fender?
are the fenders and doors off the blazer the same fit? I've never looked at the two side by side.

The earlier ones probably fit too but are built a little different. They were not built to accept power window parts so the regulators are probably different. Finding a good 73 to 76 door is probably pretty tough anyway.
