Wiring Harness Replacement

I am looking to replace the complete wiring harness in my 70 GMC. Question, can I still use the stock guages? Do the aftermarket harness's connect to the plug on the guage cluster?

Any recomendations on what harness to purchase? This will be my winter project, I am not the best at wiring plus as I get older I am not nearly as fast as I use to be!

Thanks,
Dusty

Re: Wiring Harness Replacement

I ordered mine through Wes at Classic Heartbeat. It is from M&H Electrical Fabricators and it is factory-correct in color and markings as well as connectors. Go to www.wiringharness.com to see what M&H has available. Wes beat their prices.

Re: Wiring Harness Replacement

I guess it depends on the harness you buy, I did my 71 with a painless model specific and yes it came with all the correct connectors and was even the correct colored wires that matched the factory harness. did it myself in the garage and i'm not very good at wireing!! lol. took me a couple days but was not that bad. so i would recomend painless. good luck!!!

Re: Wiring Harness Replacement

I've used American Autowire in the past to wire another vehicle and it was a nice setup with options to connect to factory gauges or to connect to an aftermarket set of gauges, both with very detailed instructions, schematics and wires labeled every 6 inches or so. However, I know there are several quality setups for these trucks out there in varying price ranges.

Good Luck,
Justin

Re: Wiring Harness Replacement

I just installed the AAW kit and it does come with the factory cluster connections. The instructions in this kit could not have been any better. I would highly recommend it.

Re: Wiring Harness Replacement

A friend of mine has built several street rods and he used Ron Francis wiring kits. He said they are under $300.00. Has anyone tried them?

Thanks,
Dusty
