Gas tank sending unit
Ok PO installed what I believe is a Blazer gas tank in my 64 Chevy Panel. I have a aftermarket fuel gauge that requires a 0-90 ohm fuel sending unit. The sending unit in the tank now is only a 30 ohm sending unit. I have tried to go to local parts stores to find a sending unit but they look at me like I am a idiot. I found a few units that have a 0-90 ohm but they are for a larger tank so thay are to big. The tank I have is what I believe is a 15 gallon or so because it was completely full and I drained 3 five gallon gas cans of fuel out of it. Any info on a fuel sending unit that will work would be great. It has to be a sending unit that has not only the sending unit wiring on it but the fuel line on it.

Re: Gas tank sending unit
I'm not sure what vehicle you could pull one out of, but I recently installed a 90 ohm tank and am using the 30 ohm gauge. The tank that I used was out of a 91 Blazer. I removed 2/3 of the resistor wire for a total of 30 ohms left, rewound it and reinstalled it. It works great. That said, this stuff is not rocket science. You could probably get a sender out of a 91 and adapt it to your float - pickup combination. I looked around and found a guy in NY that said he could help me out for 200.00. I'm pretty cheap so I tried it myself. My tank was a 33 gall. I believe but they all work on the same principal.

Re: Gas tank sending unit
Without seeing the tank, it's hard to make a recommendation, but try one for a '69-'72 Blazer. One of the aftermarket truck parts suppliers would be your best bet. If that gas tank has a half round indentation for a spare tire, it is the original tank. The Blazer sending unit will work.

Re: Gas tank sending unit
If it were me, I would buy an aftermarket 0-90 ohm sending unit ( I think autometer makes one) and install it next to the 0-30 ohm unit. Leave the fuel pickup line hooked to the 0-30 unit and hook your gauge to the 0-90.

Re: Gas tank sending unit
I'm trying to figure out what ohms my sending unit needs to be for this gauge:

Re: Gas tank sending unit
The description says that gauge is a 240 to 33 ohms fuel gauge.

Re: Gas tank sending unit
So does that mean it will work with any sending unit between 33 and 240 ohms?

Re: Gas tank sending unit
No. That means that you will need a sending unit that reads 240 ohms when empty and 33 ohms when full. That's not a GM gauge/sending unit. I don't remember which OEM uses that one. You can get aftermarket sending units with that ohms range.
