I have a 79 Dually 4x4 and want to make it a single rear wheel. I see someone already asked but my question is about the front axle.

Do you just need to unbolt the wheel extensions to make it a regular front axle?? Will a wheel bolt up to the axle when you remove these??

One more thing, what are the widths of a SRW axle. I need to know when I go to the boneyard so I don't buy another DRW.

I don't have all the answers, but HMMWV wheels will bolt up to the dually axles no problem and bring the tire in like you have a non dually axle because the extreme offset the wheels have. But this choice in wheels really depends on what you want to do with the truck..

My older dually didn't have axle extensions, the extra width was built into the hub.

Do the front extensions look like they are bolted on from behind the rotor, or are there nuts on the factory lug nuts?

If they are bolted from behind the rotor, you will have to have the dually hubs machined down to accept the single wheels, or you can buy single wheel hubs and simply swap everything outside of the spindles.
If the adapters unbolt and you can see studs, you should be able to bolt wheels to those studs. I would suspect that it is not a D60 if the adapter is on the studs.

just change the hubs to single ones... way easier then machining the hubs down. heres the bible on front dana 60 axles, it will help

Just swap the rotor and hub assy's. The brake calipers are the same but the rotors are not so just changing the hub itself is not going to work for you. You can still get the rotor/hub assy from the dealer too.
