Project "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

I thought is was about time for me to start a build thread. I have been lurking around this forum since 2005. The truck was completed the first time in 2001 and substained minor paint damage leaving the World of Wheels in 2002. Now I have started the rebuild for the second time a year ago. As I go through my pics I will post my progress to the point of where I am now.

Pic 1-Truck before I started,
Pic 2-Removed front clip
Pic 3- realizing how dirty my truck was.

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

Thanks, VAC72c10,

I have learned the hard way that when you take it all apart again I should have just sold it and started fresh as I lost all the money in the first build. I could have funded more toy's.

Pic 1 - shaved marker lights (again)
Pic 2 - rough fender body work, smoothed cowl and cowl induction hood
PIcs 3 & 4 - rear step removal and shaved panel install

(Note: To all that hate these beds I am still undecided this will be used on final stages, remember this was a year ago.)

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

I should give some info on the vision I had for this build. I am not looking to lay frame but to have a nice stance when aired out. The simular stance would be seen in the Silver Bullet build.

Well the next few pic show the beginning of the porterbuilt curse. lol

Pic 1- the beginning of the porterbuilt addiction
Pic 2- some of rear suspension powdercoated and installed, rear frame in chassis saver. (top coat will be later)
Pic 3- Frt air bags installed, was not happy with bag on control arm. fixed problem later on with PB control arms.
Pic 4- Stance of truck with stock arms & PB rear kit.

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

I am back and forth on this bed. I might save it for the parts truck. I have thought about wheel well grafting. Just not sure. It will be at the end of the project I decide. I was just showing work that had been started a year ago.

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

So as I got further into this build I decided i needed a LS engine (even though there is only 6000 miles on the 350/700r)

Pic 1- ls2 engine arriving home
Pic 2- old powerplant being removed

I then decide to do a color change so....
Pic 3- out comes the interior
Pic 4- I might as well shave the firewall since the engine & interior is removed

And the project gets out of hand!

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

Once the firewall was in place I decided not to clutter it up with brake components so I ordered in the under dash bracket from Scotts Hot Rods.

Pic 1 & 2- testing under dash fitment.
Pic 3 - One of many attempts on mocking up engine location.
Pic 4 - Test fitting Doug Thorely headers.

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

Love the under dash kit! Was it easy to install, and did you need to brace the firewall at all for it?

Looks like the project is going great!

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

I don't seem to have pics of final mock up of under dash brake bracket but I followed Jlaird's lead which had braces welded to inside firewall, works really well.

Pic's 1-4 show Kore 3 big brake kit purchased from forum member. (13.5" rear rotors and 14" front rotors, machined hubs, braided lines, hawk pads)

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

Next is the kore 3 brakes mocked up

Pic 1 - rear calipers properly shimmed and mocked up on narrowed rear end.
Pic 2 - front calipers mocked up using the PB control arms and CPP drop spindles (caliper shimming still needs to be completed)

Later pics will show rotors coated black.

Re: Porject "Never Again" will I rebuild a perfectly good truck

next I received my first set of Budnik wheels which did not clear the calipers. (There was a mix up and drawing specifications were not met)

A second set was required to be made with proper pad width.

Regardless a sweet set of wheels!!
