That vette 327 is probably worth a lot to a vette collector. Great heads too....

Re: need help decoding my engines

I'm going to check my 327 when it comes back from shop.
Supposed to be 65 Vette but we will see.
I have VIN# question; can you decode this -- CS138Axxxxxx?
Thanks

Re: need help decoding my engines

Your first engine has a casting date of June 13, 1963, so is likely 1963 model year. The second one is Nov 22, 1961, so is definitely 1962.

Thanks,
I've been checking it. I found lists but they didn't show what the '3' meant, even my original service manual says it should have a 6 digit number between the CS & the A. The VIN in the glove box and the pillar match. There is also a model # on the option list but can't quite make out the 1st #. It could be a '1' based on the small line I can see, but could be a '2' also, since that # refers to GVW and I have HD rear spring option.
I've attached a photo.

It is a 68 shortbed stepside 1/2 ton. If I decode it correctly, the 3 means cab & chassis with no bed, whereas if it was a 4 it would be cab and bed. Not sure if that's right or not.

(FO6I8RD) "RD" are the last two letters stamped on the front of isaacf's 327 block, they are stamped as to what car that particular engine was installed into.
