I am New to the Board, I need some help
I am new, and this is my first post, I have just purchased a 1970 Chevy C10, I got it home and now its time to go to work, I have some questions about where is the best place to get good parts, I am looking to get the following:
-Quadrajet Rebuild Kit, for the Quadrajet 17054927 -HEI Distributor -Small Block, Motor Gasket Kit -Heater Core This is the stuff I need right off the get go, I am planning on taking the engine out and replacing the gaskets and cleaning up the engine compartment, I will post some pictures soon. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chevorton |

for the carb kit....call Mr. Carburetor in Cedar Hill, Texas. He also rebuilds them to factory, and let me tell you this, his work is flawless and very reasonable.

Classic Heartbreak? That's a new one.
...but seriously, though, for HEI, why not just pick up a standard GM HEi from a later model engine? Mine had one on when I got ahold of it, works great. Might save you some money, too.

EDIT Not trying to speak ill of any particular seller on eBay...just sharing my experience. I think my dizzy was a ProComp brand, but it's NOT the same ProComp as the suspension and truck parts company.

Re: I am New to the Board, I need some help
Welcome to the board!
Your local NAPA will be able to get you a FelPro engine seal kit, along with the other stuff you are looking for. If you rig already has a points type distributor in it, then I would just upgrade it to the Pertronix conversion kit. Do that will keep you from having to modify the original wiring. I run the Pertronix, and I have no complaints. Plus the conversion was a snap, only took me about 30 to 40 minutes to do everything and be driving with it. Look up on the Pertronix website for a dealer near you, that way you can just walk up and get the parts. I looked for the Boise area, and there is one dealer close to where my family lives using their zip code. http://www.pertronix.com/search/dealer/us.aspx If you are already set up with the HEI, then just rebuilt it with a new cap and rotor from along with new plugs 'n wires from NAPA. You can also check out the big box mail order houses like Jeg's or Summit. http://www.jegs.com/ http://www.summitracing.com/ Just a few suggestions... Not really sure of the direction you are going with your truck (Custom, stock, hotrod). If you are just wanting to go for convenience to get you daily driver back on the road then NAPA will set you up for sure. Have fun!

Hey Chevorton, Welcome to the site first and foremost. This is a great place to start on getting good parts. For example, I would be willing to give you a heater core, if you will pay shipping and become a registered member on the site. The small cost goes along way to help keep us enjoying our great trucks. I know I wouldn't have started my build without the wealth of knowledge found here. Good luck on your new purchase, Justin

Re: I am New to the Board, I need some help
From what I remember of the few I've upgraded with the Pertronix unit, they will run off of the original resistor wire, but they suggest that you source a new 12v wire. Remember that the only thing sucking any juice from this source is the coil, and it ran fine for over 40 years with ~9v.
