electrical ? dash light ?
I keep blowing the fuse for the dash lights. So today I went out and took the dash apart and started to look fro bare wires and such. It looked like a rats nest under the dash, wires runing everyware. So I cleaned up the nest, straightened the wires out and got everything looking good.
I am running fantom gauges, for the water temp, oil pres, and volts. I wireed everyting up again after cleaning up the excess miles of wire. plug them in and, they worked with the lights on. But no speed-o or fuel lights? I remembered OH YA plug the harness in, when I did that the fuse blew out ??? WHY ? what did i do wrong? OH YA I had the lights off when I pluged in the dash harness, when I turned the lights on is when it died ?? I hate electrical B/S. hopefully someone can help, Thanks Landon

A nifty safety feature on most (I think all) GM vehicles is the link between dash illumination and your exterior lights.
All of your tail lights, markers, parking lights, etc. are on the same circuit as your dash lights. That way, if you are cruising down the road at night and your tail lights go out (which is very dangerous), then your dash will go dark also. I would start checking outside the cab for the short... The headlights and brake lights have their own circuits.

All the other lights work, all the tail lights, markers, everything. The only other thing that has been giving me problums is the front drivers side turn signal. But after I put a new fuse and had dash lights on the phantom gauges, the turn signal worked. But when I pluged in the dash harness the signal was out again. Mabe it is my problum? I hate working on wireing harnesses. Anyone else have any ideas?

Try taking out all your bulbs that light up your dash-then turn lights on to see if it blows--if not put one bulb back in at a time and turn lights on.If it blows check the small wires on bottom of bulb . They sometime get bent where they will touch each other and blow the fuse. Also check where the harness plugs in as the copper stripes get folded over sometime.
