Dropped Spindle Issue
Has anyone had a problem with Western Chassis spindles? I got a set from Jeffcpp. the top of the spindle is hitting the upper control arm. The spindle will barely turn any ideas. i took some cell phone pics. The truck is a 85 C-10

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Is that with weight on it? One of mine hit without any weight on it. I don't think it would have when I set it down but I went ahead and did a little clearancing with the angle grinder just incase.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Looks like a ball joint issue to me (too short). I sure hope you can get it broken loose again. Oh but wait on that thought. Do you have any alignment spacers on the upper control arm?

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
I have used Western spindles on a couple trucks. I noticed a little touching or closeness on them but it is fine when it is set down on the wheels . A jack under the control arm will not compress the springs much . Which springs are in it , new or original. Also did you make sure the springs are seated in the lower control arm correctly ?

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
I have 2 inch lowering springs and the spindles new joints and the springs are seated in the correct position i really don't want to grind on the spindles or the arms..i believe the parts should fit....guess i'll get with ccp.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Thanks IN2, i sent a PM last week regarding the rear shocks that don't fit, he responded and asked me to call Mario re the problems, i'm waiting for them to open and i'll call his rep. There seems to be too much material around the upper ball joint area. The spindle is too thick in that area,I compared it to the stock spindle and another dropped spindle. The problem is at the top of the spindle. So we'll see. Thanks for your input

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
I had to give mine a little love right in that area as well. There is plenty of metal, so don't be too shy.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
I'm having the same problem. I called cpp on friday and they said it was normal and not to worry about it. I have installed drop spindles before and never had a problem. It seems like the taper for the upper ball joint is drilled down to far. I called Jeff at cpp today and left a voicemail, I'll see what he says.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Lo1500 i believe we have the wrong upper ball joints. I think there is a difference in the 67-72 Chevy Oreillys list a different part number for those years. I measured the old spindle and the new spindle the new one has a larger upper hole by about .0250

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Lets get some pics with the shocks installed. Having the shocks installed will definitly affect this. Lets install the shocks and see what happens.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
How will installing shocks make the ball joint fit? I have already removed the spindles to measure the ball jt stud. The spindles are going too far up on the ball joint stud. I have to use washers to get the nut to engage the cotterpin. two washers measure 3/16s total thickness.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
I'm the guy with the rear shock issue and the spindle hitting the a arm at or about ride height. I spoke to Mario last night and sent him Pics of the contact area. Mine is fully locked up at full droop and i have about 1/2 turn radius at ride height... I also have to use 2 washers to get the nut to engage the cotter pin. The upper ball joint hole in the spindle is too large

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Ok thats what i figured it starts getting a little confusing. The cotter pin issue is not really an issue at all as long as the tapers on the spindle and the balljoints are correct. Putting a washer or 2 under the castlenut is fine.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
That is the key here the tapers are not the same the newer dropped spindle has a larger upper balljoint hole the correct taper would limit how deep the stud goes into the taper and eliminate the use of washers to take up the slack.

Re: Dropped Spindle Issue
Well that sounds to me like either wrong balljoints or wrong spindles one of the 2. What was your order # so i can look it up. We need to verify some things real quick. Thats really wierd cuz danny told me the seating was correct on the balljoint and the tapers.
