Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
I was just wondering if anyone has ever hacked off the back of a suburban making it into a truck.
It would resemble something like an modern Chevy Avalanche. If so post up some pics! |

Re: Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
There is a few around here from the mid 80s that are done right, not hacked, and repainted. They kind of look like an avalanche would have from that period. From the looks of them they were done in the mid to late 90s before the avalanches were even out. I see them once and a while and one was for sale a while back but I never have my camera with to take pictures.

Re: Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
yeah i searched in the blazer/burb section and found nada too, but i do remember there being a thread about this, might just be looking up the wrong words or something. i would like to find the post if anyone has it saved someplace. have been contemplating about making a ccsb from a few of my parts trucks abut something along this line wouldnt be too bad either if i could figure out exactly how much work is involved and how good can i make it look. im a bodyman and do alot of custom stuff so it cant be anything that i cant handle. just need the ideas like hazieview

I saw somewhere that you could buy the front end conversion parts as well. Go for it!

I like the truck itself but I think it would have looked better with a stock rear window. Not a big fan of that RV looking window.

Don't let the naysayers beat you down. Using an Avalanche as a guide there is no reason it can't be done. The proportions have to be right. In the link above: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthr....-don-t-bother the rear hatch needed to be much closer to the rear doors, and the bed addition is too long. Do it, and keep us in the loop! |

Re: Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
A friend of mine hacked of the back and put on a Hardtop from a Blazer and installed a "contikit" to take his Harley with him!
Pretty unique and very ugly! But very usefull! I have to look for pics! Volker

Re: Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
ok thats just truly awesome. i still think the rear is just too long tho. i want to do the sides like the real avalanche sides behind the doors. and just make the rear alot shorter, find something to do about the tank. possibly mount truck tanks and use a pickup floor to get the clearance. should be interesting. if i did do it with a blazer top and kept it short i could ake it alot nicer too and multifunctional, keeping the avalance sides on the fiberglass top and making the rest like a hard tonneu that was funtional. damn im lookin all around now for a running old burb for cheap. i feel like a kid again with a new plan for my bike lol

HA!HA! That is exactly what I was thinking about doing! Exactly what you said. Truck and SUV in one! Like a classic Avalanche. Would these plastic things work as the avalanche sides? i'm not really fond of them but it could be something to work off of... Sparked some interest here! I think it would be cool! Re: Anyone Hacked the Cap off of a Suburban making it a truck?
i dont see why u couldnt make that work n if its on ur teuck already then go for it, bu tbasically all you would need on that tuck is the hard tonnuea. ive seen some nice ones for the "working" crowd with separate doors to access different parts of the bed. u might need something like that as tall as that truck is, btw its a killer truck if its yours hazie

Here's one. That truck had 54" tall tires, that are under water. That was a deep hole!
