My build thread 69 GMC camper special
Just putting pictures together here. 5 years of on/off work! It's hard to tell but the holes are still there for emblems trim etc!
I need help! Should I leave it solid color? Or add the two tone white to the roof and center. Believe it or not tis truck was a single color with Upper and Lower moldings from the factory. Since its not a Sierra im thinking I should go stock and leave it as is, but the 2 tone looks so good on these! Last edited by mikewarme; 11-26-2010 at 12:39 AM. |

Looking good. I use to deliver parts to a shop that looks a lot like the one I see in the background.

Re: My build thread 69 GMC camper special
Here are some pics along the way. I stripped the front end and painted with POR15 the frame rails.
Everything else was Powder coated Gloss black. Crossmember and control arms All Engine brackets Core support and inner fender wells Headlight buckets I installed New ball joints for a 72 3/4 with disc brakes and just got a set of spindles from a 74 3/4 since they were the same from like 71-79 I believe? Installed new Centric premium grade rotors and Centric premium Calipers New booster and master cyclinder assembly from ClaSSIC PERFORMANCE. I used the conversion brake line kit that everyone sells |

Re: My build thread 69 GMC camper special
More pics. We got the inside of the bed 98% dent free. The dents in the floor are hard to fix! My truck has very, very little Bondo! All dents were hammered out as close as possible.

Re: My build thread 69 GMC camper special

Re: My build thread 69 GMC camper special
There are people in the business of converting original radios into modern spec systems. No names come to mind, but I have info somewhere.I don't know enough to attempt any modifications myself. The guy I want to use gives you back an original looking radio with 180w,am/fm,and provisions for cd/xm/mp3.I figure I'll just use the am and use the preset buttons for 5 fm stations, since the dial will only read am.
The hub caps seem harder to find than the Chevys. The stainless ones can be restored, another thing I'd leave for a professional.I'd love to say I have the skills, but don't have the tools & equipment to even try. Custom Camper was an optional equipment package that included HD springs & shocks and,IIRC,HD radiator and a front sway bar.GM also offered a Custom Camper nameplate,camper/towing mirrors,a camper wiring harness, and other features to equip to enhance a truck's camper hauling capabilities.
