hello there........
I've had this truck for about 18 years, the last 6 or so years it sat in the California desert while I was away in China. I just couldn't part with her. I'm back now so she's getting a bit of attention even though she started right up and I drove her home from her desert storage parking spot.
'62 short bed, step side, straight 6 with three on the tree. I bought it from the original owner, Swartz Glass Company on Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles in the early 90's for $300. I've did a bit of work to get her running initially, the cam was eating the distributor gears, so a new cam was installed and I replaced the cracked cylinder head, I found a fresh rebuilt 848 head for $100 and bolted it on, fresh wood in the bed, a reupholster of the bench seat and a couple rust spots cleaned up. Fast forward to today.....I'm going to do some work on the steering box as she wanders a bit under braking and the steering box has a lot of play..........so I'm going the power steering route. The power drums work pretty well but I'm thinking of discs, at least for the front. When I first bought the truck there wasn't much in the aftermarket world now thankfully there is, so it should be that much easier to upgrade some of the factory stuff. I'm sure I'll have some questions. So here's Rosebud ! |

Re: hello there........
Welcome to the forum, and back to the States. Thank goodness its been sitting in a desert environment all that time. Should you want to swap in a later coil spring/disc brake suspension the following link may prove helpful:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=366850 I believe there are also aftermarket kits available to swap discs onto the stock 60-62 spindles if you prefer to keep the original suspension. And post #14 on the attached thread shows the CPP power steering adapter kit for a 1960-62 frame. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...eering+adapter |

Welcome aboard, good to have yet another short stepper. Love the look of your truck
Does the hydroboost still work on the brakes? Last edited by lakeroadster; 11-29-2010 at 04:28 PM. |

Re: hello there........
Everything works except the turn signals don't self cancel
Still running a generator even. The hydroboost works fine, just like power brakes should. The rears lock up really easy and frighten anyone in earshot. I'm changing to power steering because the old manual box is worn out and the truck wanders a bit at freeway speed. The power steering will also help with parking if my wife decides to try and drive it. |
