my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
So my project begins including a 51 chevy, 53ish GMC, 87 S10 and a 96 dodge. I hope to have it rolling by the end of june and will include plenty of pictures (because they are more fun than pages of talking)

Bet your neighbors love you. My friends call me Fred Sanford. Is the blue on LWB and is it the one you'll build off of?

I should have just looked at the doors to tell them apart. This should be interesting. What engine is in the Dodge?

The title of this thread reminds me of the song Johnny Cash sang; One Piece At A Time.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
Welcome I dont feel so alone. even if Im not using a cummins. I had to save were I could. my 54 is getting a 92 Dakota 4x4 frame with 318 although I have a Durango with a 360mag Im driving just for the winter then parting it out that motor is real tempting
her name is Chakota. and FYI shes still a chevy at heart. Good luck look forward to seeing more pics and progress |

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
Yea it’s going to be a mix breed for sure but it will be the way I want it and that makes me smile.
No project names as of yet. It should be similar to that 39 but I have 2 more cylinders and the turbo's won’t be up in my way. got the S10 apart a few days ago and started the cab mockup |

I'm liking the look of your CGCD build... dare to be different, alright! Keep the pics flowing as you make progress. Different is cool!

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
I finally got the cab centered on the frame and the wheel space like I want it. I used some old 17's and wheel spacers for mockup. Then made some temporary body mounts and removed the 4X4 blocks that were holding the body up. The mounts will be redone when I build the cage and new floor.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
My progress for the week.
I got the engine out then steam cleaned off 320k miles of grease and oil. Today we started mockup on the engine and trans, which means a little firewall and floor clearance . Up next is to square up the chassis and engine then start making mounts. |

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
How much are you going to reinforce the S-10 frame? As much and often that thos Cummins tore up the first couple of year's Dodge 3/4 ton frames I'd be a bit leery of putting that torque to the S-10 chassis.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
It will have some added structure and a cage to help tie everything together.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
I got the engine mounts made and welded in place. Used cardboard as templates and cut some ¼ plate for the mounts and gussets. Then I put a support where the lower control arms mounts.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
Yea, I love them and also drive a 98 12v daily. I had a 69 C10 to do this swap with but I've wanted an older body truck forever, so it gets the transplant.

Re: my chevy, gmc, chevy, dodge build
A few teaser pics.
My daily driver needed a new head gasket so I decided to build some twins for it while the head is out at the machine shop. And I’ve had the extra turbo lying around for a few years. |
