Think I broke my ashtray

I was wiring some courtesy lights up to come on with the dome light, used the wire on the cigarette lighter for power and I pulled the ashtray down past the stop to get access to reach my fat hand in to unplug the wire and when I pushed the ashtray back up to close it, it felt like it was in a bind. I pushed it back up to the normal stopping point and something snapped/popped off and now it won't stay closed. Anyone know what holds the ashtray closed?

If you're a contortionist, installing the new spring is a piece of cake. If you're an old man like me, well, just be patient. You'll get it in.

Re: Think I broke my ashtray

Just take the whole ashtray assembly out. It seems impossible at first, but after five minutes of swearing it will come out. Then you'll be able to see the spring that popped loose.

Reattach and reassemble.

Re: Think I broke my ashtray

Your going to want to pull it out. You "can" get the spring in without pulling it, but you "will" be very angry when your done.

Hahaha, guess I'll fool with pulling it out tomorrow, hopefully the spring didn't disappear.
I imagine I'll have a few choice words for it. :P
