Reproduction Fenders
I'm thinking about just buying a set of reproduction fenders for my 67 because the originals I have are pretty beat up. Who makes the best quality reproduction fenders? I'm not too concerned about price as I would rather pay a little more for good fitting fenders.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
alot of people have good luck with tri plus. Do you have a local place that sells reproduction because it seems like sometimes you get good ones and sometimes there not so good. I think there ok if the place is local and will let you return them if they dont fit. I gave up on repo stuff just for that fact.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
I just put on on Irish's Truck it was a thinner gauge and the fit in the front sucked....and we had to reem out to get the bolts thru the holes to get them to line up...

Re: Reproduction Fenders
Tri plus is ok at best... I have doors, fenders, inner fenders and a tailgate from them. I've wrestled with on of the doors for about 8hrs to get it to fit right and it still looks alittle off..

Re: Reproduction Fenders
I put two front fenders on my 71, from the place in ok city, the left one was off. fender and grill was too high on the left. spent 8 hrs notching my core support and slotting holes to get it to line up. oh and one fender was delivered with a dent! here is the thread

Re: Reproduction Fenders
Thanks for the comments guys. From what I'm hearing and some other things I've read I'm thinking that maybe I should just try to find another set of original fenders for my truck. Sounds like the issues with repros far outweigh anything good about them.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
thats what I would do. It really sucks buying brand new fenders, and they dont work. I bought a drivers fender that didnt fit. After drilling out the mounting holes to make it match the lower door line, it made the gap on the cowl and hood waaaaaayyyy off. Its now sitting in the parts pile if you want it for free. Its brand new. If you get gm fenders you can just count on doing it once!

Re: Reproduction Fenders
i installed a aftermarket fender and rad. support in my wife's 67 project i don't know who made them the PO gave them to me when i bought it only complaint is the gap on the front near the hood. I did have to ream some holes out but thats not to bad.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
I put repro fenders, hood, and grille on my '72. All of them had to be slotted/reamed to get it to line up OK.
Lots and lots of hours spent on this. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with original or NOS. I am always struck by how poorly repro parts are made and fit. Casey

Re: Reproduction Fenders
Why is it that China can make a toy car or truck that looks so good but cant make a fender that will fit ?

Re: Reproduction Fenders
Very true. I bought a repro for my '67, and then shortly thereafter found an original. You can't even compare the two in terms of the way they are builtand even the weight. Do what you have to do, but get originals, IMO.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
I had a reproduction fender on the passenger side of 69 and it fit very badly and had a giant gap where it fits up to the grill. I replaced it with a mint original and it fit perfectly. Just my experience with reproduction parts.

Re: Reproduction Fenders
This is where the ability to post a WTB pays off. Some new sheet metal just doesn't compare to the original...Good luck in your quest.
