Drivetrain questions?
What type of U joint should I use when I switch the eaton rear end with a 14 bolt?
Also, did the NP208 ever come with a fixed yoke, because the transfer case in the truck (my friend's 1969 K20 with a 292 and a 4 speed) is a fixed yoke? If its not an NP208 what is it, NP205 203? Also my last question what tranny is in the truck, it has 4 forward gears with the first one being a granny I think, in that it is not synconized with the rest of the tranny. So is it an SM240 or an SM465?

Re: Drivetrain questions?
Unless it has been adapted by a previous owner, it does not have a NP208. Those didn't come out until the early '80s. NP203 were only used a few years in the late 70s.
Yours is probably a NP205 or a Rockwell 221. Do you have a picture?

Re: Drivetrain questions?
I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow, this truck is bone stock, my friends grandfather used to own a chevy dealership near pittsburgh (pivirotto chevrolet), the truck was a trade in i believe.

Re: Drivetrain questions?
D@mn I just made a fool of myself haha. I read they stoped making/putting the rockwells on the trucks in '68, I was so sure.

Re: Drivetrain questions?
Roger that, I got my info from a thread started by '68OrangeSunshine, he said; "Since '68 was the first year of the 465 and [about] the last year of the 221, there must not be too many of these T-cases around"
I also thought it was a 205 cuz I heard that T221's were usually behind 3 speeds (the column shifted trannys), but after some more research I found out that in '69 they were phasing out the T221, so the SM465/T221 was a one year only deal.

Re: Drivetrain questions?
Well then I guess the question now is should I keep it? After researching the case I found out the basics, but peoples opinions about the case varied greatly; I read things from something like "It is the greatest case ever" to "It exploded on me at 55 on the highway". What do you guys think & how hard would it be to switch to a 205, could I buy and adapter, does it bolt in place or would I need a new tailhousing. Could a new SM465/NP205 from an 80's truck be put in place?

Re: Drivetrain questions?
i preferred my 221 to my current 205, but it is expensive to repair a 221.
to swap mine, i needed the adapter to tranny, a new cross member for the Xfer, and shortened my rear d/s. i used the front d/s that came w/ the xfer, i think they were the same length though.
