Amp Gauge Hook up

As my memory serves the Amp gauge works from indirect current on the factory gauge. My Gauge is pegged to the left and I would like to trace and fix the gauge. Where does it tie in?

Thanks,
Kaleb

Re: Amp Gauge Hook up

There are numerous posts in the electrical forum on this subject but in a nutshell, There are two small wires that run to the ammeter gauge. One runs from the plus post on the right fender well through the firewall plug into the cab harness and to the key switch and from there to the dash cluster plug at pin 1.

The other wire runs from the three way junction of the alternator, battery and regulator
through the firewall plug and directly to the dash plug at pin 12.

As you can see from the diagram below these two wires run through two fuses that are 4 amp to protect the gauge in case of a short or voltage overload. These fuses are about 90% of the cause for the ammeter malfunctions. They are located in the harness that runs across the radiator core support, one on each side in little football shaped containers.

The wires are located at the bottom of the diagram and vertically on the right side to the fender post.
