old 2 ton 5 speeds
Im looking for some id info on old (55-65 or so) five speed tranmissions out of two ton or bigger trucks that will fit into a 67 one ton. Are these tranmissions reliable? I have one for a 409 that is huge and requires an adapter plate as it looks like the bell housing is part of the tranny, as well as two or three others.

Have you tried "Stovebolts.com"? It is a web-site that has a section for what they call Big Bolts.

I had not heard of that site, but will look there also. The transmissions I am looking for look the same as the ones in your 67 and 71 except they are five speeds. most of them came in dump trucks, buses, water trucks, or simular heavy tonnage.

Hey, a fellow Texan! I'm pretty sure these trannys were bulletproof. GM used these in all of the "big" trucks back then, usually with two speed rear axles. I know you had to "double clutch" them because they weren't synchronized. As for the ratios, I have no clue. I don't even know if you can find parts anymore. But it seems that these transmissions would be either Dana-Spicers or Eatons. My neighbor has a '59 GMC grain truck with one in it. It has an odd shift pattern.
It's something like: 1-2-4-R __3-5__ I'll see if I can come up with something. It would be cool to transplant one into a 1 ton truck though.

I know some of the older trucks used a Clark 5 speed. I had a 49 3600 somebody had put one in, it was bolted up too a 235 6 cyl. though. Sorry can't be of more help.
