Trucks been sitting for year what needs to be done before starting it.
I have a 1996 stepside that has been sitting for 4 years that was given to me. What do i need to do before I try to start it. The truck was running fine when it was parked. I already bought a new battery for it. Do I have to drain the gas or will gas treatment be enough. Also if I the chance and try to run the old gas out will it damage anything. Thanks in advance I'm a newbie.

Re: Trucks been sitting for year what needs to be done before starting it.
I would try to drain the tank and put new gas in it then disconnect the fuel line and turn on the key and let the fuel pump push the old gas out of the line. You might also want to change the oil and pull the plugs and turn the engine over to get fresh oil to the valve train. It probably wouldn't hurt it to bad to just start it but it will run real crappy until all the old gas burns out.

Lots of good guidance in this thread:
