4x4 vs 2wd

What is the difference between the 4x4 powersteering box and the 2wd? What problem would you run into if the 4x4 PS box is installed?

Re: 4x4 vs 2wd

if installed on a 4 x4 it will be fine but on a 2wheel dr you might encounter a problem. 4 x 4 box travels parallel to the frame rail while the other traverses it underneath

Re: 4x4 vs 2wd

The problem is that you will not be able to install a 2wd pitman arm onto the sector shaft of the 4x4 box. And there is no way to use a 4x4 pitman arm on a 2wd. So if you have installed a 4x4 box onto your 2wd truck, you're going to have to pull it off and switch it for a 2wd box. Another thing to be on the lookout for is the style of the hose fittings. Boxes built prior to 1980 used inverted flare fittings. After 1980 they were metric with an O-ring.
