Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

I called and talked to him about it, he said rust in rockers and corners is all. All original. Wood bed has original paint still on it, since it had a camper on it all those years

I keep going back and looking at it. I would rather have a '67-68 1 ton cab & chassis though.

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

It just seems so odd to have nice options like 350/350 and AC but no amp-oil-temp guages. Kinda unusual but not in a good way, who doesn't like guages (unless its a plain jane otherwise).

I wondered about that. It is after all, an Iowa truck...

I'd like to have the box, the A/C stuff, and the mouldings on the box. It sounds like those are the only good usable parts from what I hear.

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

We were going to buy it because the owner said it only need corners and rockers. But, after my dad talked to Matt today on the phone, it won't work for us.

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

I honestly think this guy that owns it really believes this truck is ultra rare and super nice. I tried telling him in a nice way it wasn't super rare, and only half of it was nice. He still insisted that this guy from Topeka was going to purchase it. I wonder who that parts nazi was?

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

It does sound like a good deal, and the pics in the ad aren't really good ones. But it really doesn't have much to offer besides the A/C from the cab forward.

I never talked to the guy, but my dad did. He said he sounded like a nice guy. I hope the case was that the old man was not intentionally misleading, maybe he just did not know what to look for. Whatever the case, Thanks to you and Mathew for your help.

Here is another case where "rare" doesn't always mean "disirable".

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

Apparently the guy who we all spoke with on the phone is the kid of the older gentleman that owns it. Whe ni arrived to look at the truck i was met by the older gentleman. He kept telling me how nice of a truck it was and how great it ran and it would start right up lol. Yeah battery was deader than a doornail. He acted like though he didn't care if he got rid of it or not, he said he had a flatbed ready to go on it if it didn't sell soon so he could make a hay truck out of it. I did notice as i was leaving though he kept saying that it had beens itting at the the other farm down the road and as i left i found the other farm with 2 or 3 other 67-72's and a few other misc. vehicles none of which were all that appealing.

So was the box any good? If he does make a flatbed then maybe it would be available.

Re: 1970 longhorn on Clist. Iowa .

Yes it was the younger guy I talked to. When I asked about rust he said only rockers an corners, I figurd being a up north truck it might be more than that, and thats why I asked Mathew to peak at it. Always nice to have someone else look at a truck before you make a trip. I've had guys do this for on probably 7-8 different trucks. Some of them saved me just like this time. If anyone ever finds one around my area that I can check on, I would gladly do it, if I haven't bought it yet lol.
