Start this off by saying when I was in school back a couple or 6 years ago I had a 74 GMC as my first truck. After that I owned a grand prix (car = no bueno), then when I had a solid job after school I bought a 2006 silverado. Sure the silverado was nice with all the bells and whistles and leather seats, but just didn't do it for me like the old 74 did. Every day with the 74 was an adventure and I wanted that feeling back. So I gone up and sold that sucker and got myself a '63 step side. I have had her for a month now and wow has it been tearing at my emotions good and bad. Upon purchase the previous owner put a brand new 350 motor in it. After barely 100 miles of driving it myself, it blew rod bearings on the motor that had just over 600 miles on. Just my luck the warranty was up due to a one year contract. So i called up Jasper and got a real 3 year warranty with a new long block 350. Which was just installed this week. To top it all off I walked out to the truck this morning to find a flat tire, but didn't really suprise me as I am purchasing new tires this week, but once again another kick to the... BUT HEY! I am happy to have the new (old?) truck at my disposal. My plans are to run this as a daily driver and modify as I go. I plan on leaving the interior as is except for the god ugly brown crap on the dash and glove box. I want to move the gas tank though to the rear but that is further down the road. The truck has been bead blasted and primed so far. In the drive train I have the 350 with a powerglide (2 speed on the floor) behind that but not to certain about the rear differential. Any suggestions on this set up? I want to be able to drive it on the high way at some point and not at 55

Here are some of the current things on the "to do" list:
350 motor - DONE

Weather Stripping
All new windows and door mechanisms
Paint - this truck is pretty much my inspiration, would love to have some fake company logo all faded on the side as well. just don't want it that low maybe 1" in the front and 3" in the rear

Welcome to the forum. Very nice looking truck to start with. I'm probably the only person on here that thinks so - but I like the ride height right where it is. New wheels and tires will be a nice improvement.

X2 Mark, i like the ride height too... not a big fan of lower trucks, or really even cars for that matter. it takes away from the functionality, especially in a truck, its meant to be used

paul, you mentioned it's a 63? Looks like po went to some trouble to make it look a lot like a 62 - i.e the grille and the 10 emblem are both 62. Just curious if maybe you don't actually have a 62 on your hands. (Does it have torsion bar front suspension? maybe check the vin)??

Nice looking truck, I really like it! Would like to see a close-up of the door art!

AHHHH! Disregard - I re-read, see that the pic is the inspriation for what you are thinking about. SORRY!!! In that case, looking forward to pics of YOUR truck...

Concur on your ride height comments - 1/3 is a good slight drop without draggin yer bumpers, etc. Someone on here pointed out to me that a 1/3 drop is really about the same as an "old saggy" stock set of springs. So if you are looking for something slightly lower than stock, you might want to consider a 2/4 (or even a 3.5). Both are a good bit higher than the truck in the pic you attached.

tire suggestions eh? size-wise, I really like 235/75/15 blackwalls (or skinny whites). This size is probably as large as you'd want to go on the stock rims if youhave or get those in the future, and they fill up the wheelwells nicely.

I agree that the current ride height is not bad at all. Although the 1&3" drop you mentioned would look good as well. Personally I wouldn't go any lower than that.

Ha, its all good Jocko. yea i don't plan on slamming it anytime soon. I'll keep in mind the 2/4. need to look around more at step sides like that.

markeb - I looked threw that thread. and had a question. the ashy truck i pictured. do you think that was a faded flat black? or just flat grey used?

I think it's probably grey paint. Black primer will tend to fade more than paint, but it is also porous and tends to get chalky and break out with rust spots, and there doesn't appear to be any deterioration on that paint. I painted mine a year and a half ago and the color hasn't changed at all.
