Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
Beings my 72 K5 is torn apart I was thinking about going down the crossover steering path. I might one day lift it more than the current 6 inches so I figured better to do now than later. I would like to use as many "parts house" parts as possible for ease of replacment but if ordering a complete kit from someone like ORD is what I need to do then thats what I'll do.
My Blazer isn't going to be abused. It will probably be on the pavement the majority of its life after the rebuild is completed. It will go on some light trails, beach, hunting trips, etc but that's about it. I'm mainly thinking about doing this swap for the drivablilty with a lift. So if you have made the swap, especially on a 67-72 please share it or point me in the direction of another post. I have been reading on the "other" websites that are a little more off road oriented, but I would rather talk to you guys if possible. ![]()

Try doing a search. There are a few threads already started about this topic.

Re: Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
I ran a search a week ago, I did another before I started this thread, and I did one more just now. I have yet to see a thread about crossover steering. I'm sure there is some info buried in peoples build threads here and there but of the ones I have checked I haven't run across anything. I'm know there is info somewhere that's why originally I asked to "point me in the direction of another post".
I'm sure some one will point out an obvious post and try to make me feel dumb for not seeing it earlier, but I'm fine with that, at least I will have some more info.

Re: Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
Here are some threads I found.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...sover+steering http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...sover+steering Here is a list of parts you will need. 2wd chevy steering box, helm joints, DOM tubing, steering arm, and flat top knuckle (dana 44). I would also recommend using a trac bar. I take some pictures of my new setup tomorrow.

Re: Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
The stock 6 lug dana 44 is sitting under it at the moment, but it is going to either get changed over to 8 lugs or the entire axle will be swapped out before it's driven again. It seems that the dana axles up to 76 already have a flat spot on the passenger knuckle, just have to have it drilled and tapped for studs. That brings up one of my questions, has anyone tried connecting the drag link to the opposite side of the tie rod instead of going all the way to the steering knuckle? I have seen quite a few stock trucks with this setup (my 2006 Dodge Cummins is one of them). Seems like finding parts might be easier but this link makes it sound like its not as ideal of a situation.
I'm talking about the second setup on this page. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/Steering-Systems.htm

Re: Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
There is a guy who did a "how to" on it over at the "Colorado K5" site. I am doing it on my blazer. I plan on ordering my parts in the very near future. Just haven't made up my mind who to buy from.

Re: Crossover Steering, who has it and do you have any pics?
I'm all about swapping in a D60 but I am having trouble justifying the cost for this particular Blazer. I don't think I will abuse it enough to need one. It would make crossover steering a lot easier. I have been casually keeping my eyes open for one to fall in my lap (yeah, right!) so you never know.
On another note, how crucial is the panhard bar? I realize it will keep the lateral movement of the axle from pulling back on the steering, but for my purposes is it really necessarily? I see some people use it, some don't.
