Hubcaps

Any thoughts on whether I should clear coat the hubcaps or not, they have been glass blasted and I used etching primer and tremclad paint to finish.

Re: Hubcaps

Can you scuff up all the nooks & crannies good enough? I'd hate to see the clear lift and mess up an otherwise great paint job.

Re: Hubcaps

That is a concern of mine, that s why I am looking for feedback on this matter as it took a while to get them done.

Re: Hubcaps

I sho would like to know to know how you did the GMC letters and the ring. I've been trying to do mine also.

As far as the clear spray. You could test it on another hubcap or piece of scrap metal. Also, if you post this same question in the "paint and body" section, there are some savvy people over there. They don't frequent the site very often but they know their stuff.

Re: Hubcaps

68 gmsee I painted everything white then taped off everything except the centre black and painted that, then used 1/8" painters tape to tape off what I could and used a fine artist's brush and freehanded the rest, I did take my time and wiped up many mistakes along the way.

Re: Hubcaps

If I understand correctly, Tremclad is the Canadian version of Rustoleum. So as long as you prepped the metal decently, I think you should be good to go with what you've got. Maybe put a coat or two of wax on them to keep road grime down.

Looks great by the way!
