6-lug question
Well its time for front disc brakes and a while back it was said that you could put brake rotors from an 88 up 6-lug 3/4 ton rotor on a 71-72 spindle no problems. I need to know for shure before I start, I have a 69 1/2 ton. I thought i could just buy drop spindles for stock balljoints and buy rotors and calipers for alot cheaper.
Allso the other day I had one of my crazy ideas and thought about puting a 99 up rear end in my truck but I dont know if its doable what do you guys (and gals) think. Thanks Ben |

I can tell you what I am doing right now.
I have been converting my 70' over to frt disc. these are the parts that i used all others are stock: 1) 6 lug rotors from GMC Paul (both rotors, inner and outer wheel brgs, calipers, hoses, pads,) $219 (or something close) 2) 73-87' 1/2 ton spindles heavy duty (for use with 1.25" thick rotors) not the 1" thick rotors (free, always someone dropping a chevy around here) 3) upper and lower ball joints for 73-87 4) outer tie rod end for 73-87 5) outer tie rod for 70 truck (for use as inner) 6) tie rod adapter sleeves( bought from case-bt, think they come from classic performance products) very nice product. i also plan on buying brake lines from inline tube since mine are over 30 years old, and i also need to buy a master cylinder and proportioning valve for the disc setup. thats what i have been doing lately. the other choices are buying a complete kit with spindles from a vendor, swapping over a front crossmember from a 71-87 1/2 ton or someone else said something about using the newer 6 lug rotors, but i don't remember the whole swap and what was involved later tommie |

Tommie, what brake line are you going to use if you are using the big brakes up front?

the rubber brake hoses came with the kit from GMC Paul, I am going to buy new brake lines(metal) from inline tube.

one thing I have learned is that nothing is impossible, someone will come up with a way to make it work
