He said I could have it if i came to get it. What all would i need to rob off the bus to make it fit in my 87 GMC? and what would i Need to do to my current truck to make it fit? i already have the cab off, its just a bare frame and what do i do about my granny geared 4spd and t case?

I'd stay away from the 366. The 366 is a truck motor and you'll find zero performance parts for them. The tall deck 366 is designed for torque and not much else.

Re: Sorry To ask Again

Thats all I really want it for..Im not building a Quarter mile rig, just something to have fun with and drive around town a couple nights throughout the week, with the occasional back woods tour. Tourque is what you want in a fullsize 4x4 from what I understand. Cant you run a regular BBC intake on them with spacers?

I agree you will not like the low rev tall deck 366. There's a reason he's giving it away lol.

Re: Sorry To ask Again

I know we arent answering your question...
but PLEASE listen to the voice of EXPERIENCE....

FREE stuff can be the WORST DEAL EVER!!!

This isnt the engine that makes the FUN torque to jump you off the line...
This engine will pull a HOUSE off its foundation... but do it VERY SLOWLY....!!!!

RUN AWAY!!!! RUN I SAY!!! RUN!!!!!

The way I read below, He may want to pull a house off it's foundation, If this engine will make the truck move for free (must not move now) and do what little he wants why not ?

Re: Sorry To ask Again

hey chris,go for it.that motor is only .400 of an inch taller than a regular bbc, they also have forged steel cranks and the crank and rods fit into the regular big blocks. good luck.

Re: Sorry To ask Again

Well, i want just a loud abnoxious truck that will go anywhere, that motor with a mild rebuild and a rv cam , headers, carb should work good, on a tight budget so i think it should do okay in it..im only 17 and looking for cheap power, whats the numbers on these motors?

Re: Sorry To ask Again

I work at a school district here in South Texas and I have worked on plenty of 366's. Personally I wouldn't get one but if that's what you want get it. It's your truck after all, build it how you want it.

why not?

Now that all the naysayers have had their turn:

This is a low RPM high torque high durability motor. It has a lot of visual wow factor but not a lot of go. They really aren't fuel efficient with the extra ring, but they are very durable. Essentially they were designed to be a high torque replacement for a 350 in heavy vehicles.

The 366 is .4" taller on the deck to fit 1 extra piston ring in. This lifts the heads up and away so regular intakes will not swap witout spacer plates. Most motors will have 'peanut' port heads which give huge torque, but don't work well with aftermarket intakes. Heads can be swapped but most standard heads and all square port or aftermarket heads are too big. This motor has very small cylinder bores! It can be bored out to take 396 pistons, but they are too short to make good compression.

Many of these motors are factory equipped with a Holley spreadbore carb, 450CFM.

The back end is typical Chevy. They usually are manual trans and use a bigger than standard clutch so plan on swapping out the flywheel to a standard one (they are internally balanced so any 396 flywheel will work). Carb linkage may be cable or rod. The engine will NOT bolt into a standard chassis without changing the oil pan (the front crossmemeber on a big truck is much lower), any non-Nova pan will do. You need to bring all the accesories from the donor as the taller block means brackets may not be interchangeable. If your truck has A/C the engine may not clear the box, and certainly will not with aftermarket valve covers. But my ex-Ryder truck has A/C and power steering, and I could add cruise if I needed it.

Stroke is the same as 396/402/427. An intersting combo is 396 pistons with a stroker crank (the 454 crank fits but does not give enough compression).
