Some questions on a 68 c10.
i had my 69 c10 for close to 3 years. Yesterday picked up a 68 c10. I don't why I got it but I did. Nothing special truck. It's got a 283 block 3849852 and 882 heads, th 400 and 3.08 rear. This thing is a dog, no power. Might have to look into a motor swap later on. What's a comp ratio on something like this?
Truck has a manual steering. There is something on a center link what is that? Driver's rocker panel is rusted out. I might end up parting this out or changing cabs. Here are some pics. |

Re: Some questions on a 68 c10.
Should be around 8.5:1 or so
283's are good motors! Small Journal power! I have an early small journal 327 goin in my truck. Maybe try a small 4barrel on that and freshen it up Actually probably lower on the compression ratio, just looked it up, those heads are 76CC chambers which would knock it down to probably something like ~7.8:1, around there. The thing on the center link is your power steering - Old style, and missing parts.
Tune up the ignition and timing, and I bet the truck will wake up.

I hate you guys out west with all of your rusty trucks. Come out to the south and see what we're working with.
I'd love to have that truck..

I'm afraid of rust. Will a center link from a 69 fit this truck? I'll do junkyard run this weekend. This manual steering is major pita. Hard to park. Truck was $800. Did I pay to much?

Re: Some questions on a 68 c10.
Your lack of power is from the 882's. 283's had 58cc combustion chambers, an 882 is a 76cc head. You just lost something like 2 point of compression right there. On the bright side it should be able to burn muddy water with that low of a C/R!!!

Re: Some questions on a 68 c10.
NOSed69 beat me to it. Those heads are killing the power.
The peice on your steering linkage is what's left of the original style power assisted steering. They didn't start using actual power steering gearboxes till late 69.
