Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
Not the best at photoshop but I was thinking about powder coating my wheels slate or black. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

My vote would be black if you was going to do it. I kinda like them chrome to. It would be cool if they had black chrome, thats kinda how the pic looks

I would have to leave them silver myself. But if your heart is set on it the slate looks better than the all black IMHO.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
I'm not sure if you can powder coat black chrome. I do think it would look pretty good though. I think I am leaning toward dark grey/slate color. leaving the lip chrome would look good if they are able to do it.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
In general, I personally don't care for black wheels. The grey/slate looks a little better. I say just have the spokes done in gray and leave the rim or hoop section polished. Kinda like I did my old Hopsters.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
Leave 'em alone. A matte black truck needs some contrast.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
Apparently having a Black Vehicle with Black Rims is the "hip" thing to do nowadays. Personally I don't get it. A Black Truck/Car with Black rims has no personality, nothing stands out. It all gets lost. Look at those Pics again and tell me, what stands out? The TRUCK stands out with the Chrome. The truck is your main focus.
I have a neighbor, couple doors down, and he’s got a Toyota Truck all jacked up, 4x4 and it’s ALL Black, everything. It’s all black……..And? Btt, you’ve got a REAL NICE looking Truck there, it ain’t broke, so don’t try to fix it. If you’re really in the mood to change something, try going with a Five-spoke TT or a Cragar or whatever. Or you can be like everyone else and join the “Herd” or you can be yourself and if that means you want Black Rims, then black it is. But I agree with Special K, it needs contrast.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
Yes, there is a black chrome powdercoat. It is PN PCP4980000 from Caswell Plating. apply it to a clean, polished chrome or aluminum surface after all of the waxes and oils have been removed.

I would go this route and leave the lip alone. Either that or nothing at all...your truck looks awesome as is!

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
I've seen certain tinted translucent powdercoats over chrome or polished aluminum that approximate the look of black chrome or anodized metals. They really pop if the substrate is shiny....

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
thanks for your advice guys. I think the grey with silver lip would look very cool, but I understand some of your points about no contrast. I may just leave it as it is but I do like the look of cars and trucks with dark wheels. Although it is a Ford and very different truck than mine, the truck on the movie The Expendables looks pretty cool all blacked out.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
I gave it another shot at photoshop with the polished lip and a different angle. I think I like it better without the polished lip.

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
Either leave them, or slate with a 'full' chrome lip (not just the outer ring).

Re: Should I powder coat my wheels slate or black?
I would either leave them polished or go with the black centers. Without having any moldings to break it up there's too much dark. Just my thoughts, it's your truck and nothing is permanent
