Pitted rust spots...

Hey, so I'm prepping my truck for paint and I've got a few pitted rust spots. What do people normally do with them? The metal is not rotten but it has maybe 1/16" pitted marks on the hood and lower fenders. Do I have to replace them? I can have pics up soon....

If it's not that bad you can clean all the rust with a good wire brush on a drill

That's what I've done. Im assuming I'll just bondo over the indents. Just hoping that the bondo won't fall out of the indents. If im paying for a good paint job I don't want these spots screwing up! I guess ill just see what happens. If anyone else has encountered this or fixed this problem please chime in!!

Thanks ont_guy! thats the answer I was looking for. I'll Get some pics up tonight. Also do you know the paint code for your truck? Mine was origonally that colour, But I cant make out the options list.

Here's a pic of the hood not a close up but gives you an idea... The little bit of rust on the front edge has little pit marks.

You will be ok with that...like i said make sure you have the rust off and clean. My self i would use two part putty for that not bondo . Ideally you should epoxy primer it first but that's out of the question for alot of do it yourselfers . Is that all the snow you have in Ottawa?

you have to kill the rust or it will cause problems, especially if it reacted with any road salts. you can get away with just covering it UNLESS you plan on buffing the paint... if you buff , the heat will cause a reaction and those little filled spots will pop, almost like solvent pop..
so.....naval jelly or phos acid, or Picklex 20,

I had a whole hood that was pitted pretty bad. After stripping and some bead blasting I just ran some filler over the entire hood. Use your spreader like a squeegee, you want the filler into the pits but thats all. After a good coat of epoxy primer the hood looked perfect. The hood stayed in epoxy primer out in the weather for the next 2 years with no problems at all.
