The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Well picked this 65 Suburban up to haul my dogs (Rottweilers) around in. I have a 3 year old female that I rescued when she was 4 months old. I bought a male pup from Land O Lakes, Florida in Dec. This Suburban is going to be their ride. It was a 283-4 speed that was sweet running, but after talking to my brother, IT"S GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Thanks, the Rotti's like the snow, but yes Florida was really nice when we were there last month. Not like here with our fresh dump of snow.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
I found a good hood to replace the damage one. Cost me a $100. I also ordered $800 worth of new metal (fenders, patch panels etc). I picked up a complete front end from a 1980 Heavy Half Ton. The Front end cost me $300 which I thought was to much, but getting hard to find in my area. A friend has all new brakes for it that he is donating to the project. My Brother and I striped out the front end and removed the engine and 4 speed etc. Once we had the front end removed we discovered that the frame was bent from previous accident. Will be a easy pull to fix. We took the Rotti-Rod to a friend who is doing the rust repair / body work for me. Well it's official, its GO BIG and NOT HOME. I picked up a rebuild 454 bored .40 short block for $600. I also managed to locate and purchase a set of rebuilt 781 castings heads for $250. I am stoked. The Rotti-Rod is coming along. Once I get it back from Rick we will install the front end and the 462 monster. Still lots togather like 4L80E, blower, headers etc.
Thats all for now ![]() Last edited by zr1pat; 02-07-2011 at 06:20 PM. |

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Wow, you have been a busy young man! I would love to have a burb, but I have no place to build it, no garage and wont spend $500 a month for rental. Oh, btw, if you put a 4l80e in your truck, you will need a computer to control it, not sure if you knew or not. They are very strong. You have me on the edge of my seat with this build.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Great stuff so far! How hard was it to pull the front clip? I plan on doing this with my suburban very shortly....

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Corts60, the front clip was really easy, did not take my brother and I very long at all with no power tools. We maybe half a day to remove the front clip and ready the engine and transmission to be lifted out.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Thanks, If I could I would have a whole team of Rottie's to fill my Suburban. Lulu (rescue female) open my eyes to this wonderful breed of Dogs. I then research the breed and found the best pedigree in Florida, which we were able to purchase Bruiser. I am going on 3 plus years with Rottie's and they amaze me every day. I now would never own another breed but Rottweilers.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Rotti's are the best dogs!! Our 150lb Fat Max, is quite a deterrent. NO-ONE comes into our yard, unless my wife or I is out there.
We have to baby gate him out of the garage, because he thinks we lay on the creepers to cushion them for his butt. He tries to sit or lay on us. ![]() ![]() ![]() We make sure he stays safe when watching us work. ![]() |

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Nice looking Burb. And it has the Custom trim too!
So a blown 462???? Depending on your skills and patience, you can build your own controller for that 4L80E. That is unless you're going full manual.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Well its been a while. The Rotti-Rod has had its name changed to the Rotten-Rod. All the rust has been cut out and new inner and outer panels made and welded into place. It was a huge job. Body has been block sanded and primered and sealed. It will be off to the frame shop to do a minor pull on the front then finely home.

Re: The Rotti-Rod (65 Suburban)
Well I got side lined, damm dog crashed into my leg and broke it in 3, spent a week in the hospital and underwent a emergency operation and got to have a 7 month vacation with no pay. Had to sell the BBC but managed to keep the Burb. After getting caught up on my financial situation we are back on the Burb. Friday its off to the frame shop to get the frame straighten. Question, I want to lower the Burb but do not want to notch the frame, how much can i drop in front and rear and what do I need to get. Thanks
