67 C10 for my wife

New to the forum wanted to post our 67 C10 SWB restro. 2 things I promised my wife when we got married one was to move which we did and the 2nd thing was to build her a 67-72 SWB Chevy C10. 5 years ago we bought this truck it has been sitting on the side of our house about 3 years ago I bought lowering kit and front disc brakes. I installed it but really didn't want to drive it due to other issues. Someone converted it to a 350 with a turbo350 auto. It was originally a 6 and manual. The truck had about 10k of shops receipts with it though the years. Who ever owned it in the past really got screwed by these guys. The paint has about 3 layers of paint original silver, yellow, and then the green you see. Planning on doing a frame up restoration, and about 450hp SBC. I picked up a 350 block with a splayed 4bolt and some 6" Carrillo rods for a great price with JE pistons. It helps I run a media blasting business so I can blast all the paint, and rust off that should save me some money and time.

Some pics of the sbc block It came with a 327 crank 6" rods, and JE pistons. Some issues are I'm not sure I want a 327 so I think i'm going to sell the crank and pistons. The whole thing had been stored in some guys garage for 20 years when he used to race circle track. The paper work was marked 1990 on the JE pistons.

Some more pulling the front clip notice the hose clamps on the AC hoses The ac was an after market under the dash deal. It worked okay never got really cold. The 350 that is in there now had low compression about 90. Never could break the tires loose I figured had issues.

Looks like a nice start! Don't know what your plan is, but the factory silver looks awesome on these trucks. What type of media blasting do you do - sand or soda? Always liked the soda idea, but I have heard it can lead to problems with the paint if not neutralized properly. Will be following your build.

Built a rotisserie for the cab and mounted the attachments where the doors hinge and latch is. Had to work out getting the cab off did that tonight. Little harry lifting it with he engine crane, but was able to do it. Got late so I wasn't able to run the chop saw have to wait until tomorrow to mount the cab on the rotisserie.

Yeah not to many around also I checked into the vin it was built in Californa and has never been out of AZ hardly any rust on the body at least so far haven't blasted the body yet ill see what is under the paint. I see some body work where I noticed body filler pushing though holes where they pulled body panels.

well in 67 you could only get 4 int. colors : red ,green, blue and a ''fawn'' it is like a tan color so the yellow and the green isnt factory in the interior .....

Not sure on the color yet we haven't decided yet she was at first instant on painting it pink but I think I have talked her out of that idea. I blast most of the time with 70 grit crushed glass. It leaves a very fine finish which you don't have to sand to apply primer. When you blast with soda it leaves a very smooth finish which has to be washed with soap and water. You never know if it is totally gone or not. Most of the guys I know do not use soda but recently I watched a 100k restro car sold at auction where they soda blasted it in a well known rod shop in Chicago. The issue I have with soda is the liabilty if someone doesn't handle it right and the paint peels then they might sue me. Where is if I use glass I know paint wont peel. Never had any issues with warping either I use low pressure about 40psi with 210cfm #7 nozzle. I can blast a whole car in about 4 hours.

wow that is imppresive havent seen one pink 67 ..... but i think i havent seen one for a reason...... over here in calif. i dont see any 67 swb fleets with black and the original chrome trim so thats what i am doing

Too bad you are so far away. Here in Cal-EPA-fornia they are going after a lot of the media blasting companies, so options are limited.

I don't know if maybe I listened to too much Elton John today or what, but I think your truck would look kinda cool in Mary Kay pink with a white top and grille. Just tint the windows reeeeaaaallllll dark!

P.S. - Palomino tan was a factory color for 67 and is a pink-ish color... super rare. Also had Ice Coral pink in '71-'72, but only for Canada, I think?

Yeah I don't want to be driving a pink truck around. Planning on tubing the rear end little some fat tires under it. It's going to be a street truck with a lumping motor that can rev to 6800. I originally wanted to build a blow though carb turbo system, but decided that wasn't what I was looking for. I want that loud lumpy engine sound that will shake the truck at an idle. A friend is trying to talk be into a big block motor but I think I'm sticking with the SBC. Big blocks are great in a heavy car where you can get the weight over the rear end.

Tough to tell what the originally color I thought it was a silver color so it must have been Palomino tan. Crushed glass is approved by CAL EPA soda isn't approved for open air blasting. I have a folding enclosure which I put over the vehicle I use a dust collector it's all portable. I blasted a guys nova in his driveway the other day. The neighbors were watching me set up I think they were surprised how much dust was contained. AZ has no regulations on blasting government here is a lot smaller then CA. They don't bother anyone trying to make a living. If your blasting and glass is getting all over cars could end up getting sued. I plan on building a temporary blast room on the side of my house and a paint booth where I can prime and paint it. I don't want to bother hauling it to a shop.

Got the cab on the rotisserie with the cost of steel I built it with lighter stuff but the cab isn't that heavy. After I got the weight on it I was able to rotate it without too much trouble but I noticed it shifted some I had brace it at the bottom but it worked out. Now i have to break down the frame probably take me a week lot of little parts.

One issue I see is the headers hang low probably catch on a lot of stuff I might have to lift the front a little.

After thinking and doing research I have decided to sell all the small block parts and build a 496 CI big block Chevy. I plan on using a stroker kit with a 1 piece rear main newer block. The ones from the 90's not the raised deck ones. Also planning on using Brodix race rite oval port. I'm hoping for about 580-600hp at the crank engine cost will be about 5k which isn't bad for what I'm building it will be all forged. Planning picking up the block tomorrow and ordering all the parts next week I will post some pictures.

Here are some pictures from the truck been working hard I tried blasting on the side of my house I made a blast room but the compressor was too loud and a couple of neighbors came over and yelled at me. I had to move the blasting across town to my sister in laws house they have 10 acres. Just a PITA to move everything back and forth for the body work. Found rust in the rockers and rear cab supports corners typical stuff. I see where someone did some jury rig work to the rockers before welding in some square tubing and a lot of bondo. Fun to find all kinds of stuff hidden under paint. The engine is at the machine shop now had a lot of fun trying to get parts ordered for the Gen 6 454 block. The seller said it was bored .60 over but we found out it was little larger then .60 over. Not sure what happened we had to do some sonic testing to see if it could handle .010 more to .70 over which would bring the bore to 4.320 and the stroke will be 4.25 giving me 498CI motor. I picked up some SRP forged pistons and scan crank and rods. Body will will be taking up much of the time now I lined up a paint booth rental in town I plan on painting it black base and clear.

added the pictures had to resize them that is a TH400 I picked up from a local guy. Going with the Big block 498 is costing a lot more then thought. Lot of extra parts I didn't think about Small blocks are way cheaper.

I figure so many c10's with SBC running around and nothing beats the TQ of a BBC with oval port brodix heads. I'm thinking about trying one of those comp cams mutha thumpers they sell.
